We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Dewgard Dominguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Melissa, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My balance has changed from when I started my career as a Pediatric Nurse. A few years after I had two kids, I decided to switch from working as a full-time nurse to part-time, because I wanted to slow down and spend more time at home. Then a few years after that I realized that I wanted more. My hobby of taking pictures and writing my thoughts down about motherhood, transcended into becoming a content creator on the side. I love sharing how I raise kids and juggle that work-life balance in New York City.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Certified Pediatric Registered Nurse at a major NYC hospital. I work on an inpatient med-surg, liver, kidney, GI transplant floor but we also care for many other specialties as well. I’ve been a nurse for 19 years (almost 17 years in Pediatrics.

After I had kids, work-life balanace took a toll on me mentally & physically. In the middle of pandemic I decided to work a few less shifts because it was hard working and then coming home & helping kids with remote learning. It had my anxiety level on 1000.

I love taking care of my patients and my co-workers are amazing but I struggled being a mother and being present at that time. It was tough separating home life from work life.

One major lesson I learned is that time is way too short. You have to enjoy it and love what you do. If not then change it.

This is when I decided to focus on myself and started writing again, which is therapeutic. I also started my side job of being an Influencer. I didn’t know how it would go, but this is my second year and I’m loving it. I love sharing my tips and tricks to raising kids in NYC and to traveling with kids. I share real life motherhood.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Wow so many places to visit where can I begin.

I would start by having her try the staples – NYC pizza and hot dog from street cart! There really is just so much to eat. I would take her to the Village and Soho and browse the stores. I would go to Central Park to chat and catch up.

I also love the Highline / Chelsea area as well – beautiful views.

I would love to take her to Rockefeller Center if it’s roller skating or ice skating season or Wollman Rink. Bryant Park is also lovely during any time of year but especially Winter.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to give a shout out to my husband and kids who put up with my love of taking pictures and my unusual work hours (I work night shifts at the hospital) and sleep during the day when I get home.

I also want to give a shout out to my parents who always support me no matter what I do.

Last but not least , shout out to my friends and followers many of whom have become my friends as well , thanks for your support who encourage me to share my content, my thoughts.
