We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Mosheim and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melissa, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk is something that you’re always going to be exposed to as a business owner. I think that the most important thing to know is that you’ll have to take some risks in order to succeed. Some will be worth it and some won’t, but its the knowledge that you get along the way that’s the most important lesson.
What should our readers know about your business?
I opened my boutique, MVM Miami, in the Fall of 2013. I have to admit that back then I thought I knew so much about the business, and I did have a good foundation but have definitely learned so much along the way. One of the biggest struggles for me has been moving with the times. I came from a strong brick and mortar background before e-commerce dominated the industry. I have really had to learn the entire website world through practice. Although the struggle has been real, I am so happy to have been able to learn about the many aspects of that part of the business. I am always trying new things and growing MVM in new directions even when it means stepping out of my comfort zone. We definitely have some surprises in store for this Fall. I have been dabbling in design a bit myself and am very excited to see what the future has in store.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Since I have seen Wynwood grow around me, I will give some insight into my favorite jaunts.
Eat: Uchi. In my opinion not only the best restaurant to come to Wynwood but pretty much my favorite in the whole city.
Drink: Even though Kyu is known for it’s food, I would have to say that their Pink Puppy is my favorite cocktail in the area. Its nice to just pop in and sit at the bar.
Visit: Wynwood wall is a must when visiting Wynwood. Its so much fun to walk around and check out the murals.
Hang Out: Well, since I’m a huge foodie my favorite hang out is the Freehold. It’s your one stop shop. You can bring your laptop and do some work in the cafe, grab a drink for happy hour or go for dinner. They created such a nice inviting space with a spectacular ambience. And, it doesn’t hurt that they have one of my favorite pizzas in town.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would say that my grandparents are the ones who should receive a major shoutout in terms of my inspiration and support for my business. They have always encouraged my entrepreneurial spirit. My grandfather started his own company and has always shown me the hard work it takes to achieve your goals. I am very grateful to have such a supportive foundation behind me.
