We had the good fortune of connecting with Merlyndia Bellevue and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Merlyndia, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Entrepreneurship is no simple task – let alone building and running a mental health private practice. Throughout my years of experience working in the mental health field, I have learned the importance of implementing the tools that I teach to my clients. I work with women who are navigating through daily life challenges and help them explore effective coping strategies to balance their day-to-day. Running my own practice has reinforced the importance of implementing various strategies to establish balance within my business and my personal life. I started by business in 2021 in the middle of the pandemic and have found the following crucial components to success: planning, routines, risk-taking, limit setting, balance, adaptability, and networking. As a business owner, I found that having a daily routine is crucial to being more effective within my practice and overall wellness. Another aspect of being in business is that no matter how much I plan, things may turn different. I’ve definitely had to lean towards acceptance a few times. Adaptability has been a key component to the changes my business has experienced so far…including the changes I have experienced as the owner. Being an entrepreneur has also reinforced the importance of setting limits with others as well as myself. I’ve learned from the beginning of my career in mental health to recognize my own limits and not overextend myself beyond capacity. There is so much power in balance and utilizing the appropriate resources has helped me shift towards a balanced life as an entrepreneur.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started my business journey in 2021 after experiencing burnout. I knew things had to change to live a more balanced life. This required me to take a risk during the pandemic and bet on myself by opening my own mental health private practice. With the help of my husband and support system, I was able to navigate through the challenges of learning, building, and running a business. I have learned to be adaptable when it comes to owning a business. I had to learn to lean towards acceptance when things turn out differently than expected. I also had to learn to extend myself grace and self-compassion throughout this process as it was a learning experience with trials and errors. What I’m most excited about is this opportunity to help so many women prioritize their wellness and acquire the necessary tools to live a balanced life. I would love for women to know it is okay to lean into their healing process… All of the different thoughts or emotions you have about starting a new experience is valid. And there is so much power in healing, feeling, processing, and essentially coping. I would love for women to know that I am here as a resource to help them navigate through some of their daily challenges. My ultimate goal is for women to feel empowered to express themselves in a safe space and leaving inspired with tools they have developed.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is a very interesting question. I say interesting because I am actually an introvert and a homebody. So you can definitely find me home curled up with a delicious snack and funny movies.
Nevertheless, I love a good restaurant every now and then.
If you are a sushi and seafood lover like myself, I would definitely recommend Ichiyami Buffet & Sushi in Boca Raton. They have a variety of options and it’s so good! If you love crab legs, I would recommend you go on the weekends for dinner!
Another option for my seafood lovers… Voodoo Bayou in West Palm Beach! They have the best chargrilled oysters…it’s heavenly I tell you. Don’t forget to order the beignets…you will definitely keep coming back just for the beignets.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I started my business in 2021 after experiencing a very stressful time in my career. I was not living a balanced life and unfortunately experienced burnout. Wanting to have my own business was always part of my vision board however I did not expect it to happen so quickly. I must give my husband a HUGE Shoutout! Starting this business wouldn’t have been possible without my husband’s words of encouragement, reassurance, and overall support. He has always been my biggest advocate to tap into my strengths and bet on myself. My husband is a significant source of positivity and joy in building my business. I must also recognize my parents, brother, family, and friends for their prayers and support since my entrepreneurship journey. I truly have the best support tribe and I am beyond grateful.
