We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Guido and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michael, what’s your definition for success?
A lot of people define success by the amount of money you make. But there’s so much more to it than that. I believe real success comes from the satisfaction of doing what you enjoy on a daily basis and having money become a byproduct of that satisfaction. Money isn’t everything but, in the world we live in, money is a vital part of ones survival. Many people are forced to do something they hate or at the very least “tolerate” to make enough money for them to live. No matter how much money that person makes I would consider them unsuccessful. For me, success is not an end goal, but a daily goal. Success doesn’t mean that I’m going to be happy every day. That’s an impossible goal to reach. There cannot be happiness without sadness. Wins without losses. Success without failure. True success is finding satisfaction in those failures. In learning from your mistakes, and from growing and striving to improve. And to be able to look back and give yourself a pat on the back for always pushing forward and staying true to yourself.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the owner and sole operator of a multi-media production company called BlueRock Rendering. I specialize in 3D rendering, motion graphics, graphic design, and animation and have recently expanded to include photography, videography, and audio engineering. I guess you could say I’m a “one-stop shop” for all things digital media related.
I came from an architectural background with a degree from the University of Michigan. Originally I was supposed to take over my father’s architectural firm but I decided that it just wasn’t for me. I desired something a little more creative and free of the constraints of an office setting. The most difficult thing for me was abandoning the security of an already thriving business (my father’s firm) and starting something of my own. It definitely was not easy but the thing that made it fulfilling was that I was doing it by myself and for myself.
I also work as a musician in multiple projects. I play bass for Jakob Takos & the Connection, guitar for the rock band Sons of A Tradesman in which I also engineered and produced our first album “Stir the Pot”.
My favorite part about it is being able to blend creativity and technology.
The main thing I’ve learned is to never sell myself short. One of the most difficult things about starting a new business is getting clients in the door. So sometimes I would rely on lowering my fees to attract customers. And maybe thats something you have to do as a new business. But I’ve slowly learned to know my worth and not sell myself short for anyone. A good product will speak for itself and the business will come.
I want the world to know that I put 100% of my effort into every job I do. I am not only the business owner but the sole operator. I handle every job from start to finish with the best of my ability and my upmost concern is that my clients are satisfied with their product.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As a local musician in South Florida I would definitely take them to see some live music. We would sample some craft beer places like Mathew’s Brewing and Crazy Uncle Mikes, eat some delicious food from anyone of the amazing restaurants in Downtown Delray.
Most of my friends are from the Midwest so I would definitely take them to the beach and maybe explore one of the many wildlife preserves around the area.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I cannot name a single person or group that has been more important to me than the next. There are many different people that have helped in many different ways for me to be where I am today. My parents have been a huge source of support in my life ever since I can remember. And, even though they may have had different plans for me, they never once stopped giving that support. Other than that there are just too many to name. Not only can I give credit to the people that encouraged me and gave me inspiration, but I also can give credit to the people that didn’t believe in me, who doubted what I was doing and why I was doing it. Those are the people that really light the fire that keeps me going.
