We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Lyfelong Foster and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michael Lyfelong, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
All I’ve ever wanted to do since I was a kid was be in the entertainment business. I started performing in talent shows in front of audiences around 10-11 years old. I fell in love with the reaction I got from the audience. That’s when I knew I didn’t want to do anything else. That’s when I started writing songs, which years later blossomed into writing screenplays as well.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My films and music are both drenched in extremely detailed and authentic storytelling. Being a Black man from America that has traveled to so many countries and learned their cultures, has put me in a unique position. I’m inspired by these places and cultures and it all comes out in my art. Each time I complete a project I’m proud, but the achievement in my career that I’m most proud of is my latest film “Legend Has It”, and it’s soundtrack album. i say that because I filmed the movie in Brazil and Colombia. I served as Lead Actor and Executive Producer of the film, and the primary artist and Executive Producer of the soundtrack. Being able to do a film in other countries, in their respective languages (Portuguese/Spanish), as an independent filmmaker is honestly astounding. The soundtrack was inspired by the film and follows a storyline itself. This film has led to my first distribution deal and I’m excited for the world to see it. Me being overly ambitious and having an insane belief in myself has led to where I am in my career. It was never easy. I had to hone and polish my skills so I could be recognized as artist internationally, and here we are.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes, there is definitely a person I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to. My late Grandmother, Betty Pearl. Her love, support, and wisdom over the years was priceless. I always remember how happy and proud she was for the things that I’d accomplished in my life and career.
