We had the good fortune of connecting with Elina Lo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elina, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Most might not consider this a habit, but I definitely believe me being bored easily is a learned behavior I decided to stick on and let happen. I was recently diagnosed with ADD which explains a lot, but I found myself quitting jobs, particular events, plans, etc. due to boredom, repetition, and seeing no growth. Moving forward and becoming a better version of myself is something I crave. Forget comparing myself to other, it’s always what am I doing and is this something that’s gonna benefit me in the long run because wasting time is not on my list. I feel like me cutting off ties has helped opportunities come to me, I always say one door closes twenty five more open! This is why I love modeling and making music because the creativity is ENDLESS!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My mind does not stop. It’s continuously running with thoughts and ideas, I have ongoing notes on my phone with planned shoots, lyrics, and voice notes with random melodies. I get these insane ideas that I just have to do it ASAP, as soon as I get them I hit up my peers and see who’s open to create this particular idea with me. It’s usually a big success, but I like to say my visual goal is to have the perfect blend of sexy and gore/horror. I want people to question how they feel about my art, and I want to encourage those to never hold back on your creative ideas as long as you’re not hurting anyone. I may be limited with equipment, but we always find a way.
I was singing before I even talked. From endless choir, to one on one vocal lessons, to failed rock bands, recording studios, and now my job which is a top 40 cover band. I went through many stages of my life where people took advantage of my kindness and lack of knowledge. I’ve been beat down so many times within my teen years to even early 20s that I almost gave up music and only focused on modeling. I love modeling but music was always my first love, it’s what I wanted to do but there are so many evil people in every industry you decide to be in, especially music. I can’t say I fully healed from the self doubt these events have brought upon me but I knew within myself I had all this space to grow and I wanted to prove people wrong. I wanted to be a better version of myself for ME, and not let what other people did to me effect my future because their opinions are wrong, I know who I am and I will continue to work on what needs to be worked on.
I learned not to trust people so easily… Always have contracts and make sure you discuss e v e r y t h i n g, especially if it involves money. It’s easy to be manipulated when you want something so bad and have all this hope, people will take advantage of that.
I’m not made for everyone and everyone is not made for me, there will be people who disagree with my art and myself as a person but there will also be people who resonate with my mind and what it has to offer. Never limit yourself because of others, do what you want for YOU and what makes you happy. Modeling can be deteriorating, but I enjoy it, and at the end of the day, I have music on my side to support me.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite place to eat and drink is the Apothecary 330, it has your ideal pizza restaurant with delicious food but that’s not the only thing! Right when you cross this opened door into another dark mystery room, it has your iconic gothic interior with a huge bar and beautiful velvet deep red couches. It literally feels like a vampire movie… minus the pizza garlic ha. Another place, particularly for daylight would be this open Vegan “Juice shop” that has everything vegan from their drinks to their food. They have animals like chickens, peacocks, bunnies, etc just walking around and fenced pigs, cows, and goats for their safety. The name is “Aguacate : Sanctuary Of Love” located in Kendall. The vibe is gorgeous, and to make it better they have crystal shops + a plant shop. 10/10 recommend. For live music, I do enjoy my rocky vibes over Jazz nights and see myself in Las Rosas or Churchills on a Saturday night. If something cool is happening, even Revolution live is a good spot. You also can’t forget the beaches…!!! I recommend Matheson Hammock Park & Marina, I did a lot of photoshoots there. Also, if you’re looking for something chill, HAPPI FARM and Glitch Bar is the place to go.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I will say the musician who inspired me the most is Hayley Williams. She has inspired me in many ways from how I write my music, the way I dress, to the way I perform. Most importantly, she’s always been big with “moving on” and that it’s okay to feel certain emotions. I bleed lyrically in my music and I know it’s a bit too “real” sometimes but I want to make others feel not alone just like Hayley did with me.
It’s a given that my family and friends have always supported me. From my cousins coming to my middle school talent shows, to my dad driving me to every show I had with my ex rock band, to my friends blasting and sharing my music and my modeling photos to other, I am truly blessed that this many people believe in me and I would not be as successful as I am today if it wasn’t for them. I love them with all my heart and hope to bring them up with me.
