We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Antunez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michelle, how do you think about risk?
This is a BIG one for me! Risk taking was something I had to get really comfortable with early on in my career. For me it was really hard to get myself out of my comfort zone because I had my son that I couldn’t let down, failing him just wasn’t an option. Until I began to realize that the more confidence I built within myself and within my Industry of the beauty world, the easier it got to take risk. I think this is what most people struggle with, and I can definitely understand why. The uncertainties of not knowing the outcome of your choices and the fear of failure is tough. Sometimes you won’t always make the right or most perfect choice, but trusting yourself enough to jump with faith is an amazing feeling. That is how I jumpstarted my business, by taking a risk.. and boy must I say IT PAID OFF! One can not be afraid of failure, because it’s those failures that build our paths and enlighten us on our future!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I own a lash studio in West Palm Beach called OH MY LASSH. I have been a lash artist now for more than 3 years and I pour my heart and soul into it and all of my lovely clients each day. It’s a beautiful thing to wake up and TRULY-GENUINELY, want to go to work everyday. It’s so rewarding to see all the hard work pay off at the end of each day, but the work never stops when you run a business. It could become challenging keeping up with day to day tasks, constantly innovating to new ways, always trying to learn new skills, finding the newest products, growing the biz, keeping everyone happy and juggling it all alone is stressful. But you learn new lessons each day, what works and what doesn’t and that comes with growth and comes with failures at times..The trick is never giving up! Which is why I am actually expanding my team this year and I am so excited to work along side some amazing talented women! I am also newly super excited about my merchandise line I recently started.
If 2020 has taught me anything it’s 1. Your health is everything but 2. Everyone deserves EMPOWERMENT! So I introduced some awesome and really cute women’s tank tops to do just that; EMPOWER WOMEN! For me it was a step out of the lashing world and a great/fun project that holds so much meaning. My mantra for 2020 is “GIRL POWER” because women are so strong and when united, man are we unstoppable! Girls can truly do anything, It doesn’t matter how old you are, what industry you’re in, where you’re from, or If you wear or don’t wear eyelash extensions, these cute tanks are just simply for anyone who feels those words and want to show it! The best part in the making of these, I got to team up with another small business that is women owned called “Lacey J’s little shop”, that’s what this is all about! I want my brand to be fun, to show others it doesn’t have to be “cookie cutter”. Yes I am a lash artist but I am so much more than that! I love bringing my dreams to reality and if I can encourage and motivate at least one person from my story that is more than I can ask for. I once read this phrase from a book “Dream a GOD sized dream” .. and ever since then that’s what my heart follows, that’s the voice I listen too.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to dedicate my shout out to the amazing and very talented, Lorena from ‘Dear Lash Love’. She is someone I started looking up to for inspiration since before I started my journey in the lashing world. I love her creativeness, the openness she has with her followers about her journey, and her style is to die for! Following along her journey really helped me find my path when I was feeling lost at times. A lot of people think things are a one way street for everyone and it’s not, or they tell you what you want to hear and not what needs to be heard at that moment. What may work for others sometimes won’t work for you and hearing her advice, her being so real and transparent she gave her followers; me a lot of guidance. Then, she started her podcasts and it was amazing! It was like having a book of answers HAHA! No, but she dedicated her podcast to common topics including struggles or questions that every a girl in the beauty industry faces every day or at least would come across in her career at some point. It was really great! I look at women like Lorena who choose to be giving and choose to pour back into their companies in different ways and I admire them for that. Rather if you’re new in your journey or been at it for years, there is always something worth learning. With an open heart, I thank her and every other women I have come across who shared a bit of their story, journey, experiences, failures and knowledge because that’s the positive dose of motivation and empowerment we all need to look up to. This is why I share my own story because again, if along the way I can inspire and motivate at least one person, that’s is more than enough for me..
