We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Dempsey-Multack and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michelle, let’s jump right in. What are you most passionate about? Why?
After getting divorced with a 2-year-old in tow and using my Instagram platform to share my experiences as a single mother handling co-parenting, I found there was a huge need for a voice on all of the struggles that newly divorced moms deal with. I decided to shift the focus of my writing to talk about my experiences and help other single parents through what I’ve learned and my passion continues to grow with each message I receive from a mom who shares that I’ve lifted her up or made her feel seen.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In the past, I’ve been featured for owning a marketing agency, which I still run and love very much! I founded my marketing company Very Well-Written Marketing about five years ago and worked hard to make it grow and become successful. But shortly after launching my firm, I got divorced. I dove deep into my writing to help me cope and started producing articles for outlets looking for content on my experiences as a single mother; particularly Scary Mommy and Parents Magazine. Because of the huge response, I wanted to reach more people so I created the Moms Moving On Podcast where I interview lawyers, mediators, mental health experts, childhood experts, and anyone who can lend advice on single motherhood, co-parenting, and moving on after divorce. I am proud to know that I am reaching thousands of women who all say “thank you for what you do, you help me feel seen”. This is the greatest reward of all.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
If we weren’t in quarantine, I’d be dragging my best friends to lunch in Bal Harbour; particularly at Makoto, and then for an afternoon at the Acqualina Spa in Sunny Isles Beach. Dinner would be at Joe’s Stone Crab followed by drinks on the Miami River at Kiki on the River.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to recognize my mom, first and foremost, who so bravely handled single motherhood and showed me the ropes. It was from her examples of strength, positivity, and perseverance that I learned the lessons I needed in order to tackle single motherhood, divorce, and moving on all on my own. Another amazing source of support I’ve received throughout this process has been from a dear friend and therapist, Evelyn Mendal, LMHC of Hatch & Bloom Co,, who has given me the tools to feel like a stronger parent on my own and never ceases to amaze me with her knowledge of parenting.
