Meet Michelle Licata | Concert planner and promoter of live performances for Disco, Freestyle and 89’s Pop

We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Licata and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michelle, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
I think the one thing that outsiders are probably not aware of is the time, work and effort that goes into planning and running a concert. My business is very competitive but that is the excitement that drives me to work hard. Working with all different people that have different personalities makes it always interesting and very fulfilling. Since I was a fan first and now having the opportunity to work with such talented Artists is beyond words.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I believe the biggest things that separates me from others is my transparency, loyalty and love of what I do. I believe I worked very hard and was not greedy to get me where I am today. I always looked out for the Artist first and pushed hard to make the venues succeed. I came into the business at the age of 50 years old and had to fight constantly to prove to many many people that I was good at what I did and nothing was going to stop me. I want everyone to know that if you love what you do and are honest and trustworthy you can build your business to be very successful.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Probably I would take them into the city and go to a very hip little spot that has music and good food. Rockefeller Center would definitely be another spot for them to see. Christmas time on 5th Avenue is a beautiful site with gorgeous window displays in all the stores. People singing Christmas carols on the corners and the smell of chestnuts roasting puts you in the spirit. I would also take them out to the Hamptons for a fun time shopping and wine tasting. The towns are quant and you just might run into a celebrity shopping or dining.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have two people that gave me encouragement and support from the beginning. Bobby Goodrich and France Joli. Bobby gave me guidance along the way teaching me so much about the business and learning how to promote to the fans. He is probably the best promoter on Long Island that everyone knows and loves. France inspired me with the love of the genre of her music. She has been in the business since she was 16 and has told me such great stories from the 1970’s and how different things were. I have many times over the years valued her opinions. She has become such a dear friend to me.
