We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Markquart and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michelle, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I have a relatively small business but I believe the social impact is vast. I have a home for Women who are recovering from addiction to drugs or Alcohol. I see the impact this has when we heal one Woman she in turn heals her family, including her children, immediate family, extended family and sometimes even her parents. When we heal one individual we stop generational patterns of addiction, incarceration, familial dysfunction which impacts our community. The community devotes less resources to Police, EMS, justice system and social services. I also see that when one is healed that one is motivated to reach out and help others to heal, expanding the impact of their own healing. My sober home is a direct result of my own challenges with Addiction and the gift I was given by having a sober home to heal in.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is Eau Claire Sober Living. I help Women heal from Addiction to Drugs and or Alcohol. I am most proud of how my dream of having a safe place for Women to heal has grown into the most beautiful supporting family that I did not expect. We walk together through the most difficult dark places that lead these Women to want to escape their lives. We create a safe space for them to go deeply with in and talk about the hard things they never thought they would tell anyone. We work through the traumas and give them space and time to heal. Being able to be apart of watching Women heal each other is radically powerful!

Business is never easy but we do it. We figure out what we need to do and just do it. We are Women and we get s#*@t done! I overcame the challenges by asking for help. I looked for other successful people and got their help. I want the world to know that change is possible! I see it every day. It takes time and there are people like me out there who care and will walk with you or help you find the resources for you to be successful. In my business I want people to have hope.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Our area is ridiculously beautiful! I would take them on a kayak or paddle board down the Chippewa River. We would spend a day hiking in various locations like the Devil’s punch bowl, Chippewa River trail, Bike the river trail. We would go out to eat at “The Informaist”, Together Farms for a fresh burger and Ramone’s for ice cream. We would go to Music in the park for outdoor music and fun. A visit to Artisan Forge to enjoy music, a Chinese tea ceremony with my friend Xin Obaid, chocolates from Sweet Driver and enjoy the art from local artists.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people who have helped me on my journey to success! My family, my girl friends who inspire me. The Women at Eau Claire Sober Living, SMART Recovery, my coaches who challenge me and everyone who supports me still encouraging my growth.
