We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Morris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michelle, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea of Chats With Michelle came to mind organically while I was going through a particular season. Basically, I was very confused about the direction I was heading in life. I knew that there was a greater purpose for my life and I simply wanted more for myself, but I could not figure out what the next step should be. This made me extremely anxious about my future and I just could not understand why it seemed like everyone else was perfecting this thing called “life” and I wasn’t. That is when I took the time to be still and gain clarity on what my God given purpose was. Like what the heck was I placed on this earth to do?! During that quiet time, I began to gain the clarity I was seeking and realized that everyone actually does not have it all figured out, and that there is beauty in everyone’s different life journey. I then decided to seriously commit to the Chats With Michelle brand where my mission is to guide young adults who have the desire to “pursue purpose”, but feel all over the place. I want to create a safe space where they know they are not alone and understand that pursing purpose is a journey and cannot just be painted with one brush stroke. Ultimately, I want young adults to gain some sort of reassurance and confidence in the process of what their God given purpose is, and not feel the need to compare themselves to their peers.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a creative by nature. However, if I am honest, I didn’t really tap into this gift until a couple of years ago. I had this long-lasting insecurity that “this is not a real job” and “what will people think?”. I now know that these insecurities came from my lack of confidence and clarity about who I am and all the value I bring to the table. I am currently a recovering people pleaser. Although it can still be difficult at times, I no longer concern myself with other people’s opinions about me. I recently created a 6-episode web-series on my YouTube channel (Chats With Michelle) called ‘Living On Purpose’, in which I interview different individuals who are pursuing their passions and purpose. I created this series because I wanted to know what ‘Living On Purpose’ looks like. Like, if I let go of the fears and the “what if’s”, how more fulfilling could my life be? I am sharing this series because I want people, but more specifically young adults to know that it is ok if you do not have it all figured out yet. Most importantly I wanted to highlight how these individuals are pursuing their purpose and how different each journey is.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting my city, I would of course recommend that they visit the beach. My personal favorite is Hollywood Beach which has a boardwalk, so you can still get that fun beach experience, but with a lot less people and chaos. Lastly, I would tell them to try different foods, there are so many great restaurants to try in Miami. My favorite food is seafood and I especially love seafood boils!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am so blessed to say that there are actually a few people in my life that I can shout out in my story. First being my mother; this woman has supported me at my worst. I was an extremely difficult daughter up until my very early 20’s and she has just loved and supported me through it all. There has never been an idea or journey she has not supported. Oftentimes she is usually my very first supporter. Next would definitely have to be my aunts (and a select few close family members who I consider to be aunts to me as well). These ladies are literally my first responders and are ready to support me whenever I have a new passion project I am pursuing. They consistently motivate me and lift me up in prayer. My boyfriend has also been one of my biggest cheerleaders. Now this is definitely not something I would usually go on record saying, but this man has literally been one of my biggest supporters. He helps me put things into perspective and look at situations from a different angle. He also encourages me to keep pushing forward in my toughest seasons. Finally, Patrice Washington’s Purpose to Platform mentorship program. This program is a specially curated program that provides you with amazing coaches and a wonderful safe sisterhood community where you feel at peace and like you belong. This mentorship program has helped me get really clear about what my purpose is and what value I bring to this world.
