We had the good fortune of connecting with Miguel Somoza and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Miguel, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for your children?
As a parent, my goals have always been rooted in making sure that my kids are healthy and happy, and to raise them to be the best human beings they can be. I want them to find a combination of personal success combined with a life lived with the highest values. And so my goal is to show them that personal success is about more than accumulating degrees and wealth – it’s about doing what you love, and doing something with purpose. I came across a series of books, called Cloud9World, that my kids were reading in school. Every month they would come home with a book based on a character strength, as represented by an animal. As we read them together, it was incredible to see how they experienced the value through a story, and how quickly they learned to define and apply them into their daily lives. Inspired by this, I decided to partner up with Cloud9World. I used their research-based curriculum to share my kids’ experience with children around the world through a TV show – Human Nature. As a parent, this is the most important thing I have done. I’m incredibly proud of the series, its message, and the fact that, in making it, I was able to show my kids my definition for “success” — doing something you love, with purpose. Miguel Somoza

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I launched Sabbatical Entertainment at the beginning of 2017, after spending almost 20 years in the corporate world. In three years we have been fortunate to have accomplished so much to that I am proud of. We have produced over 200 hours of original content in both English & Spanish. We have 3 nationally televised children’s educational series, currently broadcasted every weekend by Univision. For CNN we have produced 8 documentaries on topics ranging from fashion to sports. Our business model is unique and different than most production companies because we use archive footage and stock imagery to create new original premium content. Currently we are very focused on two new initiatives. The first, Sabbatical Brazil, a new production company we opened late last year. This division will concentrate on developing and producing local national content for all outlets in the county. The second is our Sabbatical Kids channel on YouTube launched this year. We created a brand in very little time with our #sabbaticalshades campaign. Since day 1 we have given a pair of aviator sunglasses (our logo) to our clients, talent, and other executives the entertainment industry after each meetings and post it on Instagram and other social media platforms. Our campaign was very popular, so much so we won an industry award in 2017 for the company with the best digital strategy. The busy start was not easy by any means, but what I learned throughout my 20 year career was that there are definitely no short cuts.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I like classic places, drinks at The Standard, dinner at Casa Tua or Madonlin.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
