We had the good fortune of connecting with Minh Do and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Minh, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit and I’ve spent my adult life finding new avenues to pursue in businesses. My thought process behind my latest business venture, Phở Bar Vietnamese Kitchen, was to showcase traditional Vietnamese home cooking in an inviting, laid back, and fun environment. The recipes are inspired by the dishes my mother, my grandmother and my family have been accustomed to cooking for many years. In many ways, this restaurant pays homage to not only my family, but also to Vietnam and the authenticity of the recipes that many people never experienced here in the states. I want Phở Bar patrons to experience Vietnamese food like they’ve never experienced before.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I grew up in Vietnam in a hard-working family of retail business owners, it’s all I’ve ever known. My success in life can be attributed to my parents and how they raised me and the undying support from my siblings and extended family and staff. I’m excited to wake up every day and tackle new challenges throughout all of my businesses. My wife and I own Tôi Spa, in Davie, with ownerships interest in seven other locations across South Florida. We also own a sandwich shop called 545° Bánh Mì Café, and our newest venture, Phở Bar Vietnamese Kitchen also in Davie. Obviously, 2020 was the beginning of many challenges for the entire nation, but for me, the emphasis has always been to never give up! As an example, when the pandemic first hit, leaving many of our employees on furlough and struggling, we improvised by having our staff work at home, sewing masks and selling them on our website to help bring in some financial relief for their family. I drove across South Florida buying as much fabric and sewing materials as I could get my hands on, and dropping them off one-by-one at the homes of staff members who wanted to participate. We also donated countless masks to front-line workers and first responders in our community to ensure their safety while working to protect others.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My family and I love South Florida – it’s diversity, culture, cuisine and of course climate. We frequently visit Hollywood Beach and enjoy spending quality family time together, biking along the boardwalk, eating at some of our favorite restaurants, like Margaritaville or the Rustic Inn. South Beach is a fun place to visit. We like to stroll down Lincoln Road and enjoy food and cocktails at the local restaurants. Undoubtedly, there’s no other place like South Florida and the many cultures that are represented from around the world. It’s a real treasure for anyone who visits.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The person in my life who deserves the most credit is without a doubt my wife Mindy. We’ve been together since we were in the 8th grade and she has been my best friend, partner, confidant, advisor, and most importantly, mother to our two beautiful children. In business, it takes a lot of support from the people who mean most in your life to maintain balance and happiness. I’d also like to send a shout-out to a very unique video marketing company called Full of Flavor Interactive. Owner, Brent Carr, caught wind of my new restaurant Phở Bar Vietnamese Kitchen, and approached me with many interesting ideas to help generate a buzz. In the past few months, we’ve rolled out a new YouTube channel showcasing me preparing dishes, coordinated social media video campaigns, and a media rich website for Phở Bar. Without the aid of Full of Flavor, my challenges would be much greater.
