We had the good fortune of connecting with Miranda Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Miranda, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I knew what I wanted to do and how to do it. So for me, being my own boss and playing by my rules, was a no brainer. I took all my experience that I got from other jobs, good and bad, and figured it out. I knew there was a market for what I wanted to do and how I wanted to do it. So, I went for it!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets Playtime Candids apart from all the other school photography is we take the childs photo in their natural environment, the playground! This lets us capture the child candidly and makes for the best photos! Parents always ask us,how did we get their child to smile and simply, we just let them be them. Nothing is forced is all about them. We can also do traditional school photos if thats what the school wants. We dont really mess around with busy backdrops, we focus on the child. I have over 30 years of experience in children and family photography, an Early Childhood Degree and children of my own. So kids are kinda my business.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I probably take them to Wnywood and The Design District. I love both of these places for all the creative art thats all around. Take some fun photos against the many graffiti walls, have a cup of coffee at Panthers Coffee house maybe a treat at Zacs Bakery and then head over to The Design District to window shop and a glass of wine at Baccarat BBar & Lounge.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people that helped me get to where I am now. Right off the bat, I would have to say my dad. He gave me the gift by teaching me photography as a young child. He instilled a passion in me that truly is lasting a lifetime. When I have question about my camera or photography in general, I always go to him first. My family is my biggest support group. Without them none of this would be possible.
