We had the good fortune of connecting with Missy Bonet and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Missy, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was to give an insight look on what it entails to turn your passion/hobby into a profitable business. I wanted to give aspiring entrepreneurs to have first hand experience, tools, resources and education all in one place. Through my blog you can see the day-to-day life of building and operating a small business. Through my business consulting services you are able to customize your needs to help start and/or grow your business.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
1) What sets me apart from others is this is my personal life and experiences. I’m sure you’ve heard it before that what makes each individual brand business different from the other one is the person running it; no two people are the same. That statement is very true with my business. I give you a first row seat into what life is like for me juggling three children (different ages), different businesses, balancing my relationships all while discovering how to put me first (self-care).
2) What I am most proud about is having the platform to showcase so many women that are walking in their passion. On my blog a Curvy Mom, I have had the opportunity to meet so many amazing women that validates I am doing the right thing. No matter what stage in business you are in, it’s nice to be recognized that you are doing great work and applauded. I provide this platform for women, while also being able to network with amazing talent.
3) Getting to where I am today what not easy…every day is a different struggle. The markets are always changing, the climate, the demographics; nothing is ever set in stone. Not only do you deal with your business direction, but also your personal direction. Being a digital service-based business, I am the CEO, Marketing Team, Business Development, Customer Service, plus many other hats; there are days when you are not always sure you are making the right decision. There are days where you’re like hmm.. does this make sense and because you’re the idea person and the sign-off person you’re conflicted with yourself LOL. The struggle is real for sure, but its very rewarding in the end to see the results from your hard work and with your clients.
4) One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned along the way is to trust yourself and your process. As I mentioned before wearing many hats can be exhausting and you want to invest in your company to make it grow quicker, faster, more efficient and you may be pressured into making decisions that will cost you more in the end. Learn your business from the bottom up before outsourcing. And then when you do hire; hire professional people back on energy vibes and them being qualified. Don’t hire on a shoe-string budget and expect high-level results. There are so many social media businesses popping up that are diminishing qualified business owners, but they are promising fast, quick results for pennies but then producing not so great work, scarring clients from ever trusting again.
5) I would like the world to know that a Curvy Mom, Inc. runs a lifestyle blog helping women and CEO moms discover work/life balance while keeping their mindset healthy. We show you it’s possible to have the career, a business, dreams without giving up because you became a mom. And on the business side you don’t have to do it alone. We are here to help without feeling obligated to commit to a lengthy coaching program or months of service. We are here no matter how small or big your request may be; even if its just a quick question. Trust me, we’ve been there – there is nothing we probably haven’t heard. Let’s Manifest these Profits!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love that! My best friend and I were just talking about this.
We are both huge Golden Girls fan. I would rent a nice hotel suite with city view and have a Golden Girls theme brunch setup for her, with our favorite items cheesecake, t-shirts, water bottles, coffee/tea, champagne glasses the whole nine. Order a us a couples massage for our feet, hands and back; then after we binge watched a few episodes we would go to an early dinner somewhere on the Hudson (we love waterfront). We would end the night at a lounge with dope music and vibes, because we are both social people who loves to network, laugh and live our best life to the fullest.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Of course, I recently lost my grandmother suddenly and I’m still heartbroken. Many days are extremely hard to stay motivated to continue doing this work and dealing with the trials and tribulations. However, she was a survivor, a warrior and no matter how tired she was – she kept going. Her strength and will keeps me going and rejuvenated my passion for my own business.
