We had the good fortune of connecting with Monica Theophilus and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Monica, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success/ the success of my brand Amomentwithmonica is my faith in Jesus. It is my faith that allows me to remain hopeful, determined and diligent as I put the required effort needed to maintain my business. There is a great deal of responsibility that comes with owning a business and the days it gets overwhelming my faith reminds me I am not alone because Jesus is with me and He called me to do it so He will see me through it all.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a blogger and Author. I am most proud of my blog turned Business, Amomentwithmonica because it taught me that it is important to do what I love so I can encourage, empower and equip others to do what they love and to walk in their purpose. What sets me apart from others is that I am authentic about who I am, my growth and success. I tell it all so that others can learn to overcome. I got to where I am today professionally because I decided to take a leap of faith and nurture my gift in writing by starting a blog and changing my major in college to study creative writing. It was definitely not easy because my family always thought I would become a Teacher and so did my friends so I did not want to disappoint anyone, but eventually I realized it was better to do what I know I was called to instead of what others wanted. I learned in order to become successful I had to let go of pleasing people, I had to be okay with starting over, and in order for me to become who I desired I had to let go of fear. I want others to know that my brand is all about encouraging people to live a life of healing, freedom and purpose and that it brings me joy when they do.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some of the most exciting places to check out in the city are South Beach because of the glamorous Art Deco, cafes, restaurants and lively people in that area. I would definitely recommend checking out the restaurant Sugar Factory since they have the coolest drinks ever mixed with delicious, colorful and flavored gummy worms.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I give my shout out to the amazing leaders and Pastors Roger and Cindy Jordan at Going Places With Jesus Ministries. For years they ministered to my soul, blessed me with uplifting and encouraging words and mentored me to become the woman I am today. I could not have done it without their leadership. I am so thankful for them.
