We had the good fortune of connecting with Monique Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Monique, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am from Boston Massachusetts and I grew up in the inner city. The community was diverse and rich in culture. I loved school and my teachers made a great impact in my life. I eventually followed in their footsteps and studied Early Childhood Education.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I work for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools as a Transportation Director. I am a former teacher and have worked with children and families for over 25 years. I enjoy seeing children thrive and grow in all areas of their lives.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to Uptown Charlotte. There are a variety of restaurants, museums and outdoor spaces with beautiful nature scapes. The Mint Museum of Charlotte is a wonderful place to learn more about the variety of artistic styles of different artists.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shout out to The Renewal Center in Concord North Carolina. The Renewal Center is a place of renewal; where minds are changed, culture is reformed, lives are restored and Christ is revealed. I am grateful for the growth that is occurring in my life. My mentor encouraged me to write my first book. I have always wanted to write.
