We had the good fortune of connecting with Monique Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Monique, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued an artistic career in blogging because when I lost the use of my voice due to Papillary Thyroid Cancer; blogging and writing became a creative and healthy outlet for me to express myself.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love writing. I can remember at eight years old; I started writing in my diaries. Writing has always been a form of expression for me whether it’s journaling, writing poems, or blogging. This sets me apart from others because writing is a big component of my life for communication. I am nonverbal and lost the use of my voice so blogging is my new voice. I am most proud that blogging gives me the complete freedom to fully express myself without judgment. I feel free! I am excited that writing gives my heart, mind, and soul a place of creative expression. I got to where I am today because I used blogging as a platform to heal the trauma of losing my voice to cancer. It was not easy, It took me a while to adjust but I am learning to accept my new voice and channel this energy into blogging. I overcame the challenge of this disability by journaling how I feel. The lessons that I have learned along the way are that I accept the things that I cannot change and focus on what I can change and make the best of it! I want the world to know that our inabilities do not work against us they work for us. It challenges us to become a better version of ourselves!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of my favorite spots in the city is Ft. Lauderdale Beach. I would take them to Aruba Beach Cafe where we can have tropical drinks, delicious food, a live steel pan of Caribbean music, and great ocean views while we dine. We will then have the opportunity to take a stroll on the beach, dip our feet in the water and sit on the beach and have a great time of laughter!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
MomLeague; A support group that I founded a year ago and these two amazing women who have jumped in to help me create the group are Jackie Willock and Jamii Ng Stock. They both have been the motivators behind my blogging journey.
