We had the good fortune of connecting with maca carrera and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maca, how do you think about risk?
I always say, ‘If it scares you and excited you at the same time, you probably should do it!. Today I wanted to write some thoughts about taking risks. When I was 18 years old, my twin sister and I moved to Savannah, Georgia to study Interior Design in my dream College, SCAD ( Savannah College of Art Design). I was so scared to move abroad, to a country that I didn’t know anyone, new cultures, new system and that Spanish was not the first language! I was so scared to leave everything behind to start a new life but thank God I was with my sister and we knew that this was a great opportunity that our parents were giving us and we couldn’t reject. So after four and a half successfully years of schooling, we graduated in 2010. Right after, I got a job offer in NYC. NYC!! It was another dream of mine to experience life in the Big Apple! I was scared of moving there by myself. I didn’t know anyone and I have heard so many great and bad things about NYC! The worst part was going there without my other half, my twin sister! But I couldn’t pass this offer so I moved to NYC. I worked in a small high-end residential Interior Design Firm for five years! It was such a great and rewarding experience. Every day was something new and I am so happy I get to experience life in NYC. After five years in NYC. I moved to Miami to start a family and raised my kids. I worked in a big high-end Interior Design Firm, which was a great experience, I learned a lot and grow as a professional. After five years in there, I wanted to do something different in my career and find myself with new challenges and opportunities. I consulted and spoke a lot with my family and friends and they all encouraged me to go ‘solo’ ! They all believed and me and I believed in my self too! So two years ago, I took the risk and opened my own Interior Design Studio! In the beginning, I was scared to death of the decision I made. I started doubting and asking myself if I made the right decision! But I worked HARD! ( I still do every day!) I got my first job and I gave it my all!! I was exciting, scared and thankful! Every day is a learning experience and I always strive to become better for me, family and clients. Every time you take a risk or move out of your comfort zone, you have a great opportunity to learn more about yourself and your capacity. Fear and risk are prerequisites if you want to enjoy a life of success and adventure!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Definitely the beach. I love going to Sunny Isles Beach, Perez Museum, Midtown, and Brickell. They all have nice restaurants and cool shops.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am where I am because of my mother. She has been my role model She was a very hard working woman who without her motivation or encouragement I couldn’t have done it! And lastly my dear husband, he sacrificed many things so we can open Maca Interiors!
