We had the good fortune of connecting with Monique Woodland and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Monique, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I became interested in subscription boxes a few years ago, and during a focus group with Drinkfinity we talked about what solutions we’d be interested in receiving on a consistent basis. At the time I was recovering from some severe color damage and sun damage to my hair. I then realized that all of the holistic research and diy products I was using could be a road map to help other people facing the same problem.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Club Rapunzel is a quarterly hair repair and hair growth subscription box helping women with heat damage and chemically damaged hair. The program provides award-winning products with guidance, wellness, styling, and mindset tasks to help members get into the best possible state to grow. Club Rapunzel started with just a few friends trying different products, and then more friends donating to a crowdfunding campaign to almost 250 members encouraging each other on the journey to their dream hair length and health. The hair growth results have been exciting but also the growth of the product line and offerings that continue to improve.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When my friends come to visit Miami our first stop is always the beach. The absence of sand and water from their daily lives makes them crave it more than those of us who have it in our backyard (except when it was off-limits during quarantine). For happy hour some of my favorite spots are Chotto Matte, Duraku, and Bodega. A rooftop excursion at Sky Yard, Mila, or Gitano would be a must. And if timing allowed I would definitely take my friend to the outdoor movie night at Soundscape Park and to the Miami Beach Culture Crawl.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Marina Prospero from Perfectore Corp has provided so much guidance to me from the crowdfunding stage, to product feedback and distribution resources.
