We had the good fortune of connecting with Morgan Oughton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Morgan, how do you think about risk?
Safety is an illusion and living a mediocre life doesn’t mean that bad things won’t happen.
You can be healthy and happy and then one day you slip and fall in the bath tub, get into a car crash on your way to work, or be diagnosed with a terminal illness. Life is risk, so why not embrace it for everything it is worth?
I have always lived my life on my own terms, moved often, lived abroad, changed careers, explored some of the most remote places left on the planet, and none of it would be categorized as easy or without risk. Some might even be better categorized as purely reckless, but man, it was fun.
Loads of mistakes, wrong turns, failures, second guesses and what ifs, all of it, but you don’t step up to the roulette table and put it all on black. I do try to calculate the risks and only act when I like my odds.
Putting yourself in unfamiliar and sometimes uncomfortable situations and learning to constantly adapt to new challenges has had a profound effect on how I operate as a person. And that has a direct correlation to running a successful business. You wake up self motivated every day awaiting new challenges and welcoming the risks that lead towards your goals. What’s the alternative?

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I had been working a corporate fashion job in New York City for 10+ years when scuba diving changed my life. I decided I needed to pursue it as my life’s passion and moved to Indonesia and Honduras for my Instructor training and moved to Hawaii to begin my new career. I was inspired every single day by the wild beauty of the island and under the waves and my artwork was a reflection of that. Our brand resonates with our fellow divers so much because it celebrates the ocean life. You can often hear divers recall underwater as their “happy place” and we make clothing that reminds them of there.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Florida is a very special place and there is so much natural beauty left here.
As animal lovers, we would want to take you kayaking through the mangroves with a chance of spotting baby alligators. We would snorkel at Blue Heron Bridge that has the most unique variety of fish life anywhere on the east coast or Caribbean with turtles, rays, octopus, and lots of fish. We would go up into the Springs farther north to swim with the manatees and see the crystal clear geo-thermal water bubbling up through the bottom. Head to the Miami Zoo, one of the happiest zoos I have seen in the world where the exhibits are very open and natural and the animals very healthy and active. We could stroll down the beach at sunset where the Loggerhead Turtle are coming to shore to lay their nests at night.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I met my husband on the first day of my dream job aboard a dive yacht in Hawaii when I had just started my clothing brand. We have been inseparable since, exploring 18 countries, having countless wild adventures, and raising our company like it’s our child. I don’t know when I would be without my RJ Johnson
