We had the good fortune of connecting with Mrly Jade and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mrly, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I originally had the idea for my business, I primarily was driven by the fact that growing up, I wasn’t aware of the ways that I could effectively share my art & my craft with people on a consistent basis. I didn’t really have a whole lot of support, and it was something I had to figure out on my own & through conversations with my peers over time. Also, when it came to living in Palm Beach County, there weren’t/aren’t many outlets for creatives & artists to create and share their authentic talent(s) constantly. I love everything about art and creativity, and it was very important to me to figure out a way to support the creative communities that I’m a part of.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love creating… ANYTHING! I definitely channel my emotions into a few different creative mediums. I’m a recording & visual artist, a business owner and an event planner. I dabble in photography, graphic design, film, crafting, producing, sound engineering, writing and soooo much more.
However, first, I am a singer, songwriter, & recording artist. I’ve been involved in the music industry for 10 years now. I recorded my first song at 17 years old and ever since then I’ve been in love with it.
It wasn’t always easy to access my confidence, book studio time, or have reliable support when I didn’t have the funds or energy to invest in myself the way that I needed to. I would get extremely discouraged by not feeling like I was good enough, that I knew enough, or not having the support needed to grow as an artist. I was also very young and didn’t know how much work/money I needed to put into it to see the results I desired. So, not only did I battle with external circumstances, I battled a lot within myself, which was and is my biggest challenge .
Luckily along this journey, I’ve come across some amazing human beings that really believe in me in a way I didn’t always believe in myself, and I owe so much of my growth as an artist & as a person to those people. As time passed, I made it a point to insert myself in the spaces that I wanted & needed to be in. I chose to take up space, and that was my commitment to myself.
A few things I’ve learned have been to trust myself, to invest in myself every chance I get (whether through time or money), & to study the people that I admire. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is to create things that I love, not things that I think others will like; because if I put my love into what I’m creating, it will touch those that it’s meant to.
I want to world to know that everyone deserves to be seen, to feel heard, understood, joyful and loved. It’s my goal that in this lifetime I am able to give and share that experience with people in whatever way I can. I’m committed to creating a world that shares selflessly, loves infinitely, and lives in harmony.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting, I would definitely have to take them to Wynwood & South Beach! I absolutely love how diverse Miami is, from the food to the faces.
We would have to go to Organic Food Kings first & foremost. They have the absolute best vegan burgers I’ve ever had! Coyo Taco also will be on the “Good Eats” list. Then the beach is an absolute given, because there is nothing like soaking up sun on South Beach, while listening to waves, people watching, and sipping on something tropical and refreshing, like a slushy from Fat Tuesdays or Wet Willies.
To top it off, walking the streets of Wynwood, and seeing all of the different businesses, murals & artwork is such a mood. The joy and excitement it brings is unmatched. Also, places like Wood Tavern, 1800-Lucky, & Brick House have my heart at the moment. I’ve also come across a space called “The Urban” that I love. In all of these spaces, the DJs are always amazing, the vibes are super high and super chill, and the venues themselves are beautiful.
There is one place that I wonder still exists… There use to be a Jamaican party/night in the back of Coyo Taco on Wednesday nights I believe, called “DubWise”. That was such an incredible space to be in, especially with me being Jamaican, I felt very at home there.
Those places are 10/10!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Honestly, every single artist & creative I have ever met is who I give a shoutout to. The way that people’s art has inspired me in so many different ways is absolutely indescribable, and I am beyond grateful and honored to have been able to experience them. Artists remind me how amazing it is to be human, and how beautiful it is to feel such a range of emotions and express them in magical forms that no one else could. That is beauty, passion, and light is it’s most authentic form. Shoutout to all the artists in the world!!!
