We had the good fortune of connecting with Nada Haddad and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nada, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
“Just look on the bright side” It’s a cop-out! I feel It’s very dismissive and doesn’t address the person’s problem in any actual way. It’s telling you to ignore your emotions, worries, and challenges. While it is good to look on the positive side of things, we cannot only look on the bright side. Because, if you do not face the fear, pain, or discomfort, and insecurity that you are being confronted with, then you miss the opportunity to learn and grow. Life puts challenges in front of us and it is by overcoming them that we shape the person that we are.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I became a Life transition coach, NLP & Time Line Therapy® practitioner, to help people navigate their life transitions whether personal or professional. I, myself, have been through different life transitions, some big and some very small. I am Lebanese and French. I have relocated more times than I can count. I have lived and worked in Paris, Beirut, Sardegna, Dubai, and Miami. I have worked in 4 different industries (including coaching) as an entrepreneur and an employee.
I have been in the hospitality business for 15 years, in operations and as a consultant for touristic projects all over the world. I finally opened my restaurant and closed it in 2012. I then shifted into marketing for a furniture design company and then launched my own e-commerce website. My husband, 2 daughters, and I live an expat life and move every 3 to 4 years to new cities. I can honestly say I have become fluent in the language of transition. Of what it means to reinvent yourself without losing who you are in the process, and what it takes to keep moving forward, even when you feel overwhelmed, underappreciated, stressed, and stuck. Understanding and studying transitions have become a true passion for me. I know how lonely we can feel when we go through a change even if we are not alone. Whether it’s leaving the company we’ve worked for 15 years, becoming a new parent, transitioning through divorce, or watching your kids go to college and becoming an empty nester…How we fear what’s coming next and prefer to stay where we are, and how disappointed we can be when the future we’ve imagined is challenged by the present. I love giving this support to my clients and helping them process their emotions and reinvent a future they feel safe and fulfilled in it. Stories are so important so being able to rewrite, reimagine, and recreate indefinitely the story we tell ourselves is such a powerful way to navigate life. On my website, you can read the stories of “Women in Transition” who have gracefully shared their biggest or one of their biggest life transitions and how they have managed and grown through those phases.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would for sure go to Wynwood, walk in the neighborhood, have lunch at Bartaco and stop for a coffee at Walt Grace Vintage store. I would spend a day at the Bill Bags State Park in Key Biscayne, one of my favorite spots in Miami. I love this place, very relaxing and frozen in time with its old lighthouse. And before going there I would stop at Madruga’s Bakery to buy fresh artisan bread and sandwiches, chocolate chip cookies, and their delicious lemon polenta cake to eat on the beach! On another day I would rent bicycles in south point and do the whole bicycle trail of Miami Beach. It’s the best way to see Miami Beach, South Point, Ocean drive…For the perfect diner experience, I would go to Chug’s Diner in Coconut Grove for their Burger of course, and Hillstone for the Pork chops! For an authentic waterfront atmosphere, I would go to Bayside Marketplace and finish the day with drinks at Ball & Chain. I love Mediterranean cuisine, so Mandolin is my go-to restaurant. Not only the consistency and quality of the food is great, but their white Sangria is perfect to complete the summery vibe.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
To be honest, everyone I have interacted with throughout my life has helped shape the person I am today. Some have been with people that I have known forever and other times with strangers even for a few minutes. I carry all the important aspects of my past with me. All these interactions have been with a different version of me, and I have been shaped by all my experiences as a woman, wife, daughter, friend, mother, sister… A quote that says it best and I love is by Pericles and says “What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others”. My husband and children have certainly played the biggest role. Becoming a mom has taught me so much about who I am, who I want to be, and the values that direct my life.
