We had the good fortune of connecting with Nanga B. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nanga, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“Obstacles do not block the path. They are the path. ” – Zen Proverb. Starting your own business is all about overcoming obstacles. This is one thing I didn’t realize when I decided to start my own business. They don’t stop – they just keep coming. Once I was getting ready for a craft market and noticed my candles had gotten too hot and melted! It was the night before the market and there was no way I could remake them all in time. I just wanted to quit the business right then and there. Sometimes it’s hard to find the motivation to keep moving forward, but this quote helps motivate me to keep moving forward.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Growing up I always had my hands busy with some form of arts or crafts. The older I got the less time I spent creating, this left me with a creative void. In 2017 I decided to combine two of my passions, candles and wine, by turning them into a business. Candle making has provided me with a creative outlet as a grown up and has allowed me to share my passion for candles and wine with others. I hope you enjoy my beautiful wine scented soy candles as much as I have enjoyed making them. After all, life is better with candles and wine!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

There is so much to see and do (and taste!) in Vancouver, Canada.

Some top recommendations would include:
Granville Island – Local public market with so many yummy things to try. Try the Haloumi Wrap at Sprigg – it’s to die for.
Kayaking in False Creek – rentals are only $25 an hour.
Lunch & Wine Tasting in Langley – about a 50 min drive from the city but well worth it. You can’t go wrong with lunch in the Vineyard’s. Then spend the afternoon touring the various wineries.
Shopping! Main St, Robson St, Yaletown, South Granville St are all great options. Check out Alberni St if you are looking for luxury.
English Bay – grab some ice cream and catch some sun at this great beach.
Stanley Park – the best way to see the park is by bike. There are plenty of bike rental places close by too.

Must try restaurants:
Autostrada – Italian
Nook – Italian
Nightingale – Modern Canadian
Sushi California – Inexpensive and big portions
Steve’s Poke Bar – Great for grab & go
Apolonia Greek – Hidden gem
Elisa Steak – Fancy wood fire grill steakhouse (try the tartare)

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shout out to Caroline! Caroline has been a strong supporter of my business since day one. She took over Sip Candle Co.’s Instagram last year and has done an amazing job. She has not only brought in tons of sales and grown Sip’s following but has also taken stellar product photos and provided me with great ideas and advice. Sip Candle Co. wouldn’t be where it is today without her support.
