We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Rodriguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicole, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Most people expect someone who is working with teeth, to have a “perfect smile”. I started the Bling Fairy to gain confidence in loving my own imperfect smile. I wore braces for 5+ years and unfortunately was that teenager who didn’t want to wear her retainer to school, after wearing braces for so long! So, because my teeth did shift over time, it started to affect my confidence. However, thanks to the fashion world I got completely inspired by grillz and eventually found out about tooth gems. Instant confidence boost and the compliments I received, made me want to give that same effect to others. After practicing on myself for a while, I started accepting appointments and eventually got booked for events. The feedback I get from clients and people I come across, is always worth having the imperfect smile. Because without it, there wouldn’t be a Bling Fairy, giving people sparkles of confidence to smile again!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
There are many many tooth gem technicians all over the US and the world! But I think what sets me apart, is that tooth gems are actually apart of my every day lifestyle. I’m a 90s baby, so y2k fashion has always been apart of my life. So people really see that in the photoshoots/content, the packaging, the stickers or cards they get at their appointment & more. The best part of this whole thing, is that I have made connections with people as far as Japan and as close as my own neighborhood. When you are a business owner it is so important to remember that it’s not just about you and what you have to sell or offer. The most success I have received comes from supporting others and being a genuine person. If I were just in this to make money, I wouldn’t be able to work with clients in person. I’m such a big believer in energy, and when I meet people that want a tooth gem for the first time, I want them to remember the experience and the intention behind the appointment from the moment they book to the moment they leave. This also matters because we live in a world where many people vlog their experiences for services they get done. Another thing that is super important is staying educated on owning a business and the benefits that come with it (having an LLC, business acct, etc). However, be mindful of where and who you get the advice from.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My perfect day in a new city always involves the following: finding the local smoke shop or dispensary, a location with a good view, somewhere good to eat, possibly the beach or waterfront to catch the sunset, and a good dessert.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a huge shoutout to my boyfriend. My business has taken a whole different direction because of him encouraging me to take risks! Coming from NYC, I was solely taking clients and working events here and there, as I had been working as a full time social worker at a public school. However, when I decided to take the risk and leave NYC to be in Miami full time, he pushed me to take a risk on myself and the potential he believed my business could have. Since then, I have launched my own DIY tooth gem kit and various virtual products to help other tooth gem technicians like myself. My boyfriend also owns his own business, so the mentorship he has given me while running his own business has been so inspiring. He is such a hard worker, so he deserves his flowers and then some!
