We had the good fortune of connecting with Nikki Spoelstra and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nikki, what matters most to you?
Authenticity is the principle that matters most to me in life and in business. I’ve spent so many years of my life trying to live up to some elusive societal standard of what I should be or do. When I started to really reflect on what I wanted my life to feel like, look like, and be about… I was able to start making small changes to live in a way that is most in line with what I believe is my soul purpose. Today, every choice I make has to pass the authenticity test. Does it feel right and good in my heart? Does it align with my core values? Does this choice represent who I am today?

This is important to me because I think the days of “fake it till you make it” are dead. I heard Gary Vaynerchuck say that in one of his speeches. That the days of fake it till you make it are over and the age of authenticity is here to stay… and I believe that. I think our world is awakening and prioritizing authentic relationships, activities, and choices. And I want that for my life and for my business, The Know with Nikki Spo.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is truth-speaking and storytelling. In other words, my gift is listening, writing, and communicating. I don’t really like to go into what sets me apart from others. I think that everything sets all of us apart from each other. Our stories and backgrounds are so unique but interwoven – it’s really so hard to sit here and say what makes me different. I don’t think I am any more special or different than others. I simply choose to put myself out there and make my voice heard. But I think many of us do that in our own ways.

Arriving in this space was both easy and difficult. The difficult part was getting the guts to actually do it. That was hard. And it took years. The rest has been “easy.” Easy in the sense that I get to choose who, what, when, where, why, and how to do things. I look for ease in my life. I expect life to be great for me. So a lot of the ease comes from my attitude towards life, which has changed dramatically in the last couple of years.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would bring them to my home. I am a homebody and an introvert. I would host my friends, go swimming, eat great food, and listen to excellent music.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many light leaders that have come in and out of my life. I am so lucky to have a network of women who genuinely want to see each other succeed. I want to name them all but I feel like we honor each other with our energy anyway. They know who they are and the impact they have had on my life.
