We had the good fortune of connecting with Noelani Soto and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Noelani, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
That’s a loaded question! I do feel like I think about this a lot, though. Especially now that I work independently as a freelancer, I spend a lot of time alone with my thoughts, haha! To be honest, helping other people makes me genuinely happy. I guess that’s why I wanted to start my own business so that I can offer my services in order to help people on a personal level.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
In 2021, I decided to leave the corporate world and take the leap in starting my own business in social media marketing called Femme Brand Digital Marketing. I love to create content for small businesses and watch their audience grow! I’m also working on helping start another business with two incredible people that I’ve met on my freelance journey, called Host Studio Co. Here we’ll be working on influencer marketing where we’ll be connecting tasteful brands with creative influencers.

Of course, there have been a lot of ups and downs, like figuring out self-employment taxes and insurance! But if you can stick through it and have a community that supports you, anything is possible. It’s so important to make sure you have a business process set up like having contracts for clients to fill out, invoices with deadlines, and that you set boundaries with clients so they aren’t calling or emailing you at all hours of the night.

I currently offer social media content creation services for small business owners. I mostly create content suitable for Instagram and Facebook but have worked with clients who needed assistance with Twitter, Pinterest, TikTok, and more!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh, that’s a tough one! Miami has SO many places to visit. I’ll keep it to general areas like Midtown, Design District, and Wynwood. I also love the ambiance that Las Olas in Fort Lauderdale has to offer.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
So many people have been part of my journey! I know that I’m privileged to have been able to leave my full-time job in order to pursue going out on my own thanks to my parents. They’ve been a huge help, offering to help me and guide me through tough financial decisions. As far as having someone to talk to about the day-to-day struggle of being a freelancer, my friend (and former boss) Dana has been there for me pretty much every step of the way. From helping me with a pros and cons list of going freelance to helping me find the confidence in myself and skills, she’s been there for every text and phone call, no matter how annoying I’ve been, haha!
