We had the good fortune of connecting with Patricia Calasich and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Patricia, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
I wake up every day at 5:00 am. This is my sacred time and I use it to recharge and start my day in the best possible way. I meditate, exercise (whenever possible) and get my girls breakfast and lunch ready before I wake them up. I know my mood will have a great impact in everyone around me and I want to make sure I bring my “A” game every day with my family and my business. It’s not always easy but with practice you let go of the things you can’t control, and you focus on what you can control.
I am also obsessed with personal development. I am always interested in learning new and better ways to do things. My search for improvement has led me to meet incredible mentors and coaches that have helped my growth both personally and professionally. I know may people have already travelled the path I am in, and I love learning from their stories and implementing what resonates with me. I’m in a constant pursue of excellence which keeps me always open to learn. We only have one life so why not make the best of it in every way.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I always knew I wanted to have my own company, since I was a child. I was very lucky to work for the best architectural firms in Miami when I started my career. I learned a lot from my time with them and it helped me shape my company today. I think one of the most important things is to have clarity on your goals and values as a business and leader. These will guide all of your decisions in your business, from who to hire to who to work with as a client. Designing is easy, running the day-to-day business is hard but with every challenge comes always an opportunity learn new ways to do things better.
I once heard a phrase that said” if you focus on mastering your craft, money will come”, I live by this line, I don’t take many projects at the same time because I do want to be involved personally in all of them and because creating one-of-a-kind designs, which is what we do, takes time. We only work on designing Forever Homes in Coral Gables and adjacent cities, so I want to make sure that every space we design is the best it can be both functionally and aesthetically and most important, that feels like home for our clients.
We have been in business for 6 years and our work has gardened us 2 Red Luxe Awards, 1 NKBA Award, and multiple publications and recognitions in varies digital media outlets, but the most rewarding gratification is always to see our clients happy with their homes and enjoying them with family and friends. Our business has always been 100% direct referral from past clients and recently Instagram has been a great platform to display our work and connect us with new clients that fit our design aesthetic and values.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ah! Living in Miami, you bet you have had to do these many times with family and friends.
I love Coral Gables, not only because I live in this City but because I appreciate the beauty of its architecture and the landscape we are blessed to have. I mostly stay within the city and do a combination of places. I love the Biltmore Hotel for breakfast or Bruch. Such a beautiful building with so much history. The view to the pool or golf course is always very soothing for a morning gathering.
For lunch I love to take our friends to either to Fairchild Gardens, which we are members of, just love to be surrounded by so much nature and its quite an adventure for people out of town. Their restaurant is small, but they have a great option for a light and healthy lunch.
Books and Books is also a favorite spot of ours. Love seeing the books around the restaurant and during winter is lovely to seat out and listen to the live music.
At night, I love a good Italian restaurant such as Fratellino, Bugatti or Zucca, I prefer small, cozy places where you can enjoy good food and company and no be distracted by too many people. I’m an old lady at heart!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Ah! so many to share. I think my years at Arquitectonica and Kobi Karp working on high rise, hospitality and commercial projects were a great school in my career and certainly set me apart in my field today. My coaches: Michelle Villalobos, Gladys Diaz, Clubhouse, IDCO with Design Camp and my husband Chris Nordh, who has been my biggest supporter and confident since I started my business journey. I have also been inspired by the success of friends and relatives who also run successful businesses. I think investing in yourself is the biggest ROI. If you don’t invest in yourself, why would others want to invest in you?
