We had the good fortune of connecting with Patricia Luciano and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Patricia, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I was clear about the idea, but i didn’t know anything about technology… so being able to explain the idea, and what it was going to solve, and why i wanted it the way i wanted it… was a tough path. Fortunatelly i found somebody who i told my plan and connected me to the right people… and with that, i could see my vision come to life…
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a voice over artist, but i was told that i wasn’t good enough… several times. That’s why, i started studying, practicing and learning as much as I could in order for me to succeed in this field. Because of that, I created Kastaco, the first platform of its kind in the DR which connects talents and brands. With that in mind I created my podcast Tras la voz, and i won several awards with both of them.
My biggest challenge was that when you are told you are not good enough, you have the tendency of doubting yourself, so the imposter syndrome appears… i had to stop listening to those voices, and believe that i could be whoever i wanted to be, if i believed in God’s promises in my life.
My lessons are that you are always going to face your imposter syndrome… every step in the way. BUT if you understand that you’ve always have had the power to shut up those voices and that the only person who can stop you is yourself… then you can overcome anything. Also, surround yourself with people with the same hunger as you, to grow, to fulfill their dreams… because that way you can dream together… and always involve your partner in your processes… he / she is going to be there to watch you, so is better if they are part, and you can change the world together.
The Club Guide’s Pod by Dominican Sister, is a platform where we are opening windows to show how our Dominican women are thriving in different parts of the world. Kat Pesantes, Paulette Noboa & Ilen Brens are the creators of that platform and I am the host for the podcast and cofounder of it.
On the other hand, Kastaco, is my baby. My app that i created in the DR and currently we are putting all the pieces together so we can start receiving fundings to get this to the next level. Recently we were the Runner Up in the first edition of the Spanish Pitch Competition in the Florida Atlantic University (FAU). Last year we were the only latin project in the Tie Global Pitch Competition in Sillicon Valley. So one step at the time, but no stop. So happy of what we are creating to open doors for other talents in the world, and adding new funcionalities that are also going to help those talents to educate themselves and to protect their creations.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When my best friend come, first place i want to take her is Ojo de agua in Brickell for breakfast… Later we can eat at Casa Tua or Mister 01 in Brickell. In the afternoon to the Wharf…
Also i’ll take her to the Key Biscayne Beach, and after we could go to Bayside.
As a dominican, I’d like to take her to Made in DR Restaurant in Wynwood, and to the Guitar Hotel.
And go to see George Harris… he is so funny!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
So many people… I’ll always start with God, because as a woman of faith HE is the one who open doors and create opportunities for me. My husband Edgar Cadena, forever my accomplice and now our son, is part of the team… both of them support my dreams in different ways.
My parents: Clemente Luciano (RIP) who taught me to work, and to love to work. And Isabel Mateo, my mother, who taught me the importance of believing in God and praying.
In my Career, Joel Reyes Colón, Melvin Alexis, both Radio Directors who gave me opportunities at the beginning. Saymon Díaz, with whom i worked for 10 years as a Radio Director of Exa 96.9FM, and my ExaTEAM… the best team of talents and producers in the world!
Papolo Sonoro, Beto Franco, Jorge Vargas who encouraged me to follow my path with my app.
Keyla Santana, my PR in DR , who has always been by my side, and with whom my work had been noticed because of her work with me as a brand.
Drisset Bethancourt, My PR in Miami, who has opened new doors for me.
