We had the good fortune of connecting with Patricia Ruiz, MS CCC SLP and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Patricia, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think risk taking is an extremely important part of opening your own business. I took the plunge without any second thoughts. I went all in, i didn’t do it part time, or a few hours a week…i did it full time, 100% ,every day. There were no second options and there was no turning back. So i committed to my dream. In my head i was going to make and failure never crossed my mind. I worked hard every day, and i was dedicated to helping and making a difference. Today i am forever grateful to my old self for taking the risk, to my mother who taught me perseverance, and for my patients who believed in me.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Miami Speech Institute, we strive to help others. My mission is to be able to provide the best service for the patients we see. One thing that sets us apart from other clinics is that we have very family oriented atmosphere. Every time you call our office, I answer the phone (not a secretary) you can directly talk to me anytime…patients always have a way of contacting me. My patients are not just numbers. We give our 100% with every patient and their families. We watch them grow, and celebrate milestones together. Its not a factory setting, where we are trying to fill up slots. Its a place where my staff and i are always ready to share our knowledge, resources, and time to help families and their children. That is what i am most proud of…our quaint style of doing business. The most important lesson i have learned (which my husband has taught me) is to adapt, change, and keep moving when things don’t work…If you stay stuck on doing everything the same..you won’t grow. Times change and we need to roll with the times.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am a mom with babies, so i haven’t been out for a while LOL … I definitely would plan for a spa day… filled with massages, yummy food, cocktails, and sunbathing by the pool!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ve been blessed with a great family and friends who support me. As well as, my amazing patients who have believe in me and trusted me with their children every step of the way. I thank god and the universe for all my blessings.
