We had the good fortune of connecting with luis Miguel Messianu and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi luis Miguel, what are you inspired by?
I’m inspired by genuine leadership combined with integrity and generosity
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been writing for a living and living to write since the tender age of 17. I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have found the advertising profession, to which I owe everything! Thanks to this industry I’ve been in a constant state of betterment, and along the way I have learned about marketing, business, creativity, production, digital and other disciplines that are geared towards brand building. I’ve also devoted my journey to learning how to build a unique culture. For advertising agencies organizational culture is a must if shops wish to survive and even thrive. A distinctive and truly unique culture is the most powerful way in which an agency can create a real point of difference. It hasn’t been easy but certainly it has always been exciting, ever changing and challenging. This is a profession in which you never stop learning and throughout my career I’ve witnessed huge amounts of change that have forced me to adapt and keep pushing forward.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ve lived in Miami since 1993 and I’ve seen the amazing transformation the city has gone through. Miami has a very diverse and inclusive demographic, and a vibrant and ever-changing personality. From being a sleepy small city that welcomed the Cuban exile in the 60’s and was the refugee for seniors that came down from the northeast escaping the cold to retire in warm weather, today Miami is the hub for the arts, technology and new age startups and established companies, the home of strong content and entertainment companies, the setting for sophisticated hospitality venues and the gateway to Latin America and Europe. Miami is energetic and transformative. It has so much range and in more ways than one contains in itself many Miami’s. It can be mainstream America, as much as it can be provincial Latin American, it can be Caribbean creole and rustic; it can be laid back and easy going, or fast paced, exotic and exuberant. The good thing about Miami is that is very close to the U.S. ;
) Interesting and cool people want to live and work in interesting and cool places. Miami has gone through a great transformation and it has a lot to offer, including a great geographical location that is relatively close to any destination in Latin America or Europe. Art Basel (which by the way is now larger than the original) has also been a trigger. Wynwood and the Design District have created an additional cultural layer. All in all, Miami has the cool factor and also the human touch. Plus it’s very easy on the eye! People are nice, they are curious, thirsty for new experiences and to top it off open-minded! It’s the perfect and most balanced “cocktail”… like a refreshing and energetic “Mojito”!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
In tribute to my personal literary character: Don Quijote de La Mancha, who thought me about idealism, optimism and resilience!
Dedicated to all the “Almazing” SoulMates at Alma, who inspire me on a daily basis and propel me to become a better leader!
