We had the good fortune of connecting with Patrick Janka and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Patrick, what do you attribute your success to?
The defining factor to the success of Luxe Filmography is the dedication to my couples’ unique stories. I handcraft every wedding film to fit the couples’ personality and vibe. I take on fewer weddings each year so that I can put more work into each couple’s film
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets me apart from others in my niche is a few things. I always do video or in-person consults with new inquiries instead of phone or email. I generally use a lot more static shots and prefer to move the camera when it’s motivated. I also edit my films using a bit of tension through my use of music, sound effects, cuts, and time shifting.
It wasn’t easy getting to where I am today because I started my business around the time of the pandemic. Post-pandemic wasn’t much easier due to runaway inflation and a shift in consumer habits. I overcame these challenges by altering some of my communications and changing how I posted to social media.
What I want the world to know is wedding videography should be considered a must-have on a vendor list rather than a nice-to-have. The two things that last for years after the wedding day are the photos and video.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m located in Orlando, so I’d have my friend visit in the early fall when it’s not too hot. We would go to Eola General for brunch and then hit up the amazing water park, Volcano Bay. Afterwards we’d grab some vegan doughnuts at Voodoo Doughnut. The next day we’d do an escape room or two on International Drive followed by a meal at the Ethiopian/Eritrean restaurant, Selam. I’d take them to Disney Springs in the evening, get an epic Non-Dairy Hot Fudge Sundae from Ghirardelli, and watch one of the live bands. Over the week we’d go to the various springs, Wekiva Island, Leu Gardens, Bok Tower Gardens, The Orlando Museum of Art, see an improv show at SAK, and a stand-up comedy show at The Orlando Improv. Then we’d head down to Miami to hit up South Beach and grab dinner at PLANTA. Finally we’d head down to the keys for some snorkeling!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes to my sister, who allowed me to film her wedding in 2010 when I was just starting my professional video production journey. I hadn’t yet filmed a wedding, but she granted me the honor of capturing her big day despite that.
