We had the good fortune of connecting with Paulina Ornelas de Alba and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Paulina, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?

In the wave of life, the balance depends of our passion and energy that;s why I really believe that we need to go in our inner mind and run, stop, relax and move forward again, cycle by cycle.

It does not mean that you completely stop anything, it means that you mind and body rest for a while. My life changed completely when I started my own business, I become a more productive and happy woman, now I work more hours a day but I spend my time with family more than before.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

As a Mexican Industrial designer I love to build things, research, meet new materials, process, solve problems etc. I had experience designing in different industries like: playgrounds, expositions (both, runways and stores), leather goods and laser cut products.

6 year ago I came to Miami and I started to work in a restaurant, after 3.5 years I was tired and I had a big desire to start by my own, the best way for me was doing products from my hobbies – like crochet. Conceptual Boutique started 9 years ago in Mexico using other materials and colors, It has been transformed with more knowledge, after the pandemic I became more conscious about the millions of stuff we use. Now I offer useful sustainable products.

I’m a mom from 5 years old girl so I spend time between my own dream business, learning, motherhood, marriage and living the life. One thing about me is that I love to see satisfied customers with my products. Probably they don’t know the time and the passion that I put in each piece. However, it is great to know that my productos are made with consciousness about our planet.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Well, of course we must go to the beach, we are in Miami!

I am always looking for new places to go and Love the museums, the gardens, parks and experience in new places that offer different tasting food and drinks. Miami is a multicultural city. We can do a little trip from Peruvian food, cortadito (cuban coffee) tacos of Barbacoa, seafood, the best place of salads and tons of bakeries around the city.

My favorite places in Miami are: Vizcaya museum , Coconut Grove , Wynwood, Perez Museum, South point and Hollywood beach, etc. Any place that has green, art, culture and new tastes could be my favorite.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

There are many people in my life who teach me things every day, it is very difficult to decide. I have had 3 mentors throughout my life, one of them has died and the other 2 are far away. The fact is you don’t always have someone to guide you so figure it out, I’m pretty sure very soon I’m gonna have a new business mentor.

By the way, the only person who always gave me love and support and never is so far away: my mom and I’m so grateful for that.

Who knows me knows that I’m a Lucky girl!
