Meet Pedro Abdala, William Ryan, & Marciano Oliveira | Co-Founders of Temple Martial Arts

We had the good fortune of connecting with Pedro Abdala, William Ryan, & Marciano Oliveira and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Pedro Abdala, William Ryan, & Marciano Oliveira, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Temple Martial Arts came to life when we realized the Miami martial arts community was missing the deep connection and tradition that first drew us to the practice. While there are many studios in the area, few offer the intimacy and focus of a small, dedicated school. Our founders spent time immersed in the arts such as Wing Chun and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and knows firsthand the transformation that happens under the close guidance of a sensei. With Temple, we’ve returned to those roots—keeping our classes small, our approach personal, and our community grounded in the discipline and respect of true martial arts tradition. We offer a range of classes and welcome students of all ages, creating a space where everyone can train, grow, and belong.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Temple Martial Arts was founded by three individuals—William, Pedro, and our Sensei, Marciano—who share a vision for bringing a different kind of experience to the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and martial arts world. We keep our classes intentionally small, following the way of the samurai and the traditions of dojos, instilling discipline, respect, and personal attention into every lesson.
What makes us most proud is seeing our students transform—arriving with curiosity and leaving just months later nearly unrecognizable in their confidence, focus, and spirit. Everyone who walks through those doors becomes part of the family we are building- to us, that is the true beauty of martial arts!
Like any independent venture, our journey began with challenges and hurdles, but we overcame them through daily perseverance and an unwavering commitment to move forward, even before the results were visible. Along the way, we’ve discovered the incredible strength of community and the value of those who stand beside you.
Looking ahead, we are committed to deepening our connection with the community, offering unique experiences for all ages and skill levels. Above all, we want the world to feel inspired by our return to simplicity and roots—and to know that they are welcome to step inside, train with us, and become part of the Temple fellowship.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We love Coral Gables! For lunch after training, we enjoy the casual vibe at POC Buffet and the upscale feel at Fogo de Chão—steakhouses are a favorite since we’re Brazilian. When friends visit, we recommend drinks and dancing at Copper 29 or any bar in Coconut Grove. And after a busy training week, Key Biscayne is our go-to for a relaxing beach day.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We would like to thank all of the masters who have guided us along the way, including Shifu Liang Shen Long (Andria), whose teaching and dedication have deeply shaped our journey. And a special thank you to Laura Fernandes for her invaluable support in helping us open our doors to the public.
