Hi Polish Me Lee, LLC, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
My favorite affirmation is a bible verse from Hebrews 11:1; “ To have faith is to be sure of the things we hope for, and to be certain of the things we cannot see.” This verse has played a huge part in how I got to where I am in the nail industry this far. When I first started doing nails, I was so discouraged because I knew the potential I had, but did not have the patience or faith that I would go far with it. When I wasn’t getting any clients, I wanted to lose faith. When I tried different techniques and they didn’t work, I wanted to lose faith. When a design did not come out like I thought it would, I wanted to lose faith. So I had to remind myself that unless I actually stand on faith and believe that I can make this a living, nothing will change for me. Now I live by this verse.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I stumbled into the nail industry on accident. The pandemic happened and I refused to go to the salons to get my nails done. I kept complaining to my partner that I wanted to get my nails done but I couldn’t go to the salons anymore because of quarantine; so he bought me a nail starter kit from Amazon and that’s where it began. I didn’t learn nails from a family member. I didn’t learn nails because I loved doing my own. It was completely random.

I am most proud of how far I have come. Learning the different techniques that work for me was the biggest struggle I’ve had. I took one-on-one classes, group class, YouTube, and just practice to get to where I am. It was not easy at all. I cried A LOT! I gave up A LOT! I did not have much support. My family didn’t believe in me at first. I had people say they would support me and never did. I had people come to me once and never again. It was an emotional rollercoaster. But my passion never left. My passion is what kept me going. I had to learn not to let any of those things discourage me. I had to learn that not everybody that I ”expected” to support me would support me. I had to learn that this industry takes patience, time and commitment.

In order for me to become a full-time nail technician, I had to believe that it will happen one day and invest in that dream. I went from having 3 people a month to having 2 to 3 people a day Monday through Friday and being booked every Saturday. I went from working out of my home to renting a booth in a shop. I am now a part-time nail technician working a full-time job from 8am to 1:30pm Monday through Friday and working from 3pm until at the shop. If I had given up, I would not be where I am today.

My brand “Polish Me Lee, LLC” will branch out into “Pretty Girl Studio” in the future. I want everyone to know that you will want to jump on my team now and not later. Customer service has always been my strong suit and my clients will reap the benefits once I am able to fully expand.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, I always shout-out and give thanks to God. Without him, the skills that I have would not even be possible. Next I would love to shout-out those that believed in me more than I did from the beginning. To start with, the person who helped me discover that I had a future in nails, my partner Jonathan Hayden. If he never unintentionally invested in me, there would be no Polish Me Lee. Next is my best friend and also my favorite non-profit organization- Roddia Hill also known as Roddia’s Room Inc. Roddia has always been there to encourage me to live up to my worth regardless of who I am servicing. I have constantly told her that I would not charge her for any service because she has always supported me, and still to this day she refuses to let that happen. Lastly, I would like to shout out my sister-in-law Mickey for sticking through it with me. When first started and I had no one else to do, she was the one person who consistently got her nails done by me. She really witness my progress first hand.
