We had the good fortune of connecting with Marcia van Zyl and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marcia, what principle do you value most?
Integrity. I always strive to be the real estate professional that you can trust to provide informed, honest advice.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I came to Real Estate from a Marketing background. After graduating with my Bachelors degree, I moved to Chicago and spent my early career in Advertising. After 4 years, I decided to pursue my MBA at Imperial College, London, to expand myself and my understanding of the world.
While in London, I changed my MBA emphasis to Venture Capital, married and had three beautiful children. In 2007 I moved back to Florida after my divorce and met and married Albert van Zyl.
Albert was an Engineer in the Mega Yacht Industry in Fort Lauderdale. I decided that I wanted to get back into Real Estate Marketing and realized that I would need to become licensed in order to do so. As such, Albert and I both received our Florida Real Estate Licenses in 2011.
It was during my early years in Real Estate and during the last market crash, that I learned to love doing market research on the real estate market. I would pull stats and do modeling to predict the best investments in Real Estate at any given moment in time. This lead to my earliest clients being investors and I developed long term friendships and relationships with my clients.
In 2015 I was asked to become the Managing Broker at Berkshire Hathaway Fort Lauderdale. While the broker, I did an even deeper dive into the business of Real Estate and developed my passion for digital marketing and market statics.
My husband decided to go into full time Real Estate from yachting in 2018. After 6 years as the Managing Broker, I decided to go back into sales and formed a team with my husband, Team van Zyl in May of 2021.
We focus on providing the most informed and honest advice to our clients and providing cutting edge marketing for our sellers.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In Fort Lauderdale, for me it is all about the New River. We would jump on a boat and do a trip along the New River viewing downtown from the water and stopping for lunch at The Boathouse. After lunch we would jump back onto the boat and head to the Intracoastal, perhaps stopping for a drink at Coconuts.
Another day we would spend a long afternoon on Las Olas browsing shops and stopping for lunch at one of the many fantastic restaurants along Las Olas.
At night, we would stop by the Dalmar hotel and head up to the Sparrow bar for a rooftop view of downtown Fort Lauderdale and the ocean.
For a final day we would hit the beach, stop by The Elbo Room to see the place where Albert and I met, then close the day with an amazing dinner at Dune restaurant in Auberge.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank Rei Mesa, CEO of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Florida Realty for all of his support and mentorship.
