We had the good fortune of connecting with Pousye and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Pousye, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success is my self-discipline and consistency. Family, friends, and peers tell me, often, that I am a super disciplined person. Pre-COVID-19, I wake up between the hours of. 4:00 a.m.- 5:00 a.m. to get ready for my day. My day would begin with a work-out, shower, and coffee. Then, I would be at work by 6:30 a.m. to be ready to teach by 8:00 a.m. Then, after the workday, I make sure that I am in bed by 8:00 p.m. In between lunch breaks and after work (4:00 p.m.), I focus on building my brand, honing my design skills, and executing the tasks on my to-do-list. It is important for me to remain consistent so I practice self-discipline every day through my routine. Also, due to my discipline, I am always on time (others may say I am too early). Since COVID-19, my routine has changed which has affected the way I practice my self-discipline. I learned to give myself grace during times of uncertainty and I added meditation to my morning routine for my inner peace. I have been waking up at 5:30 a.m. instead of 4:00 a.m. to go for a quick run at the park. I still have my coffee and make myself ready and available to teach virtually at 8:00 a.m. Since the teaching times are shorter due to the pandemic, I have more time to work on my brand. To sum up, I provided examples of my self-discipline and how I remain consistent so I believe this why I am successful.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I was introduced to art as my muse, escape, friend, and joy during my childhood in Haiti. It all started with a notebook. I sketched, colored, drew, and created alternative spaces. Specifically, “The Haitian Hustler’s” space. I watched the women in the markets of Haiti buy, spend, and negotiate various items so that they can make money to support their livelihoods. It was at that point, I realized that I too can do the same. Mixing the formula of art, entrepreneurship, and a dream was the beginning of Pousye Plus. Pouyse Plus is my multimedia business where I offer logos, business cards, and website design to small businesses. Was it easy? No. I had to gain the courage to start and continue. I had to have confidence in my work. As a creative, you sometimes question yourself about your skills. Then, I had to have people buy into my vision. Once people saw that I was good, I started to receive a steady flow of clients. I overcame the challenge of courage, confidence, and getting customer buy-in by just putting starting the business and networking. I have learned to be true to myself and that there is always enough room for everyone to eat. I want the world to know that no matter where you are from, you can make something out of nothing. I always look for the positive inside of all situations. I ask myself what can I take away from this scenario? For my brand, it is about impact. I want to inspire young Haitian immigrants to believe in themselves and become entrepreneurial “Haitian Hustlers”.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Definitely, Bayside Market Place in Downtown, Miami, and Shuckers Sports Bar in North Bay Village. Besides that, I don’t go out much. I like a quiet night at home, reading, or working on my computer.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout out Yselande for always being there for me. She is my copywriter and editor and currently assisting me with my first book. Next, I want to shout out my boys Jeffy D., Toyo, Alan, David, Kixionary, and Chelo Chelo for supporting me from day 1 and believing in my dreams, inspirations, and ideas. Lastly, a special shout to my Mom, my first lady. Lastly, I want to say thank you to Linda from She Motivates. For a book recommendation, shout out to Jack Canfield for writing the “The Success Principles”. I recommed this book.
