We had the good fortune of connecting with Priscilla Rojas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Priscilla, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
In April 2016, I earned my Master’s Degree in Film Production at Full Sail University located in Orlando. I moved to Miami, in the same month, because a few months before my sister and I made two TV Shows Pitch to a regional TV Network, which they like the idea, the projects and how we structure them. So we start looking for the hosts, the crew, which most of them were undergraduate students from Full Sail, build the sets, and start writing the scripts. At the end of the day, our show started to be known by the PR’s, talents, and other industry professionals. We start with one day of the week, and thanks to the audience ratings and teamwork, we started to go on Air every day.
For me, has been a long journey where I had to demonstrate my knowledge and passion for TV and film projects because I was a woman of 26 years old directing and producing their own shows, booking well-known artists and influencers for the show, and in turn, making our company, Alpha Entertainment Services, known to the local entertainment market.
I started this company with my sister, Linda Rojas, film and tv producer. A visionary person with an incisive taste in business and a great passion for doing what she loves with persistence and determination.
Many people in the entertainment industry told us that we were so young to have experience, so that’s why we had to prove our knowledge more than anyone else; even though we had a career and experience from Venezuela and our degrees.
I believe this was one of the thought process behind starting our own production company in Miami. We have to start from 0 in the city, be secure of ourselves in an industry where the male gender predominates and understand that there will always be people who will not believe in you, but also there is people who bet on you.
Nowadays, we earned the respect of many of those who did not believe in us, we won awards that affirmed our efforts such as Emmy Awards, Telly Awards and International recognitions; but the most important thing, we are still learning in each project. I believe if this is your career, you will always be constantly learning about new technologies and techniques.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In my case, I am happy with our company achievements and the people we worked with in music videos, tv shows, films, commercials, or events. In every project we overcome challenges and learn new things; depending on the project, we have to look for locations and permits, talents, crew or staff, building sets, working with children on set, deal memos, catering, or craft services.
Every audiovisual material have their own time, genre, story or idea, strategy, or funding and that’s what I like about my job. We had worked with companies such as Food Network, Pepsico Latin America; in the Miami unit for the movie “Bad boys For Life”, national TV channels, artists or influencers, which made us understand their needs, gain knowledge, explore new topics and achieve their goals.
Definitely, you gain knowledge and experience with each project and for sure one of the lessons I learned from the last 14 years is that time is money and until a script is not fully developed, a movie should not be made.
For sure, my company, Alpha Entertainment Services, is a full service company that suit our clients’ communication needs not only in Miami, but within the USA and worldwide. And now, we are building our own Studio in Southwest Ranches where all content creators will be able to come soon!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The Key Biscayne beaches will be a must and also, if we have time any Key West beaches.
Miami have many places to visit such as Wynwood and Brickell for Miami bars and lounges, South Beach the 1hotel rooftop, Fort Lauderdale and if you want something more relax and nature everywhere, The Everglades tours are the perfect option.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I started this company with my sister, Linda Rojas, film and tv producer. With a Master’s Degree in Business Administration along with an upcoming career in Journalism, she decided to lead the Alpha Entertainment Services team as an Executive Producer which represents a big responsibility managing our resources to produce high-quality content and be the foundation for great projects.
Also, I have to credit my parents. They are my biggest mentors. My Full Sail professors, friends and those who always believe and stay with us in every project such as Teffi Hernandez, Eduardo Paguada, Andrew Wallace, Daniela Galo, Cesar Sanchez, Victor Rodriguez, Vitiesther Torres, Juan Camilo Ruiz, Miguel Moncada, Leonardo Ibarra, Blanca Sanoja, and many others.
