We had the good fortune of connecting with Killian Grondin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Killian, what role has risk played in your life or career?
For starters, I strongly believe in taking risks.. I think it’s an extraordinary thing in disguise, but hopefully, they’re taken intelligently. When taking risks and succeeding, you often end up with a much higher reward than you would have gotten with a more low-key play or with you just simply sticking to your comfort zone. When you take a risk and fail, you learn something valuable about your decision and circumstances – you become more confident, with the understanding that everything good or bad will lead you exactly where you’re meant to be. I encourage people to take risks, to live without the fear of regrets. The predictable path might be safe, who wouldn’t choose safe? But the comfort zone can kill you and it prevents you from achieving greatness and significantly limits your options in life. Like I tell everyone, including those closest to me: you’re young, what have you got to lose? You’re making a decent salary in a company you’ve spent little time with. You aren’t married in most cases, you don’t have children, and you don’t have any other significant responsibilities. Taking a risk and failing here doesn’t put anyone else in jeopardy, it won’t cause you to lose much time (since you’ve invested less than a year in this position), and can’t possibly set you further back in terms of salary. Compare that to a position you may find yourself in 30 years later.. perhaps you’ve caught yourself being married with 2 kids, with 20 years sunk into a specific company role in a specific career line, and a substantial salary you’re depending on. You’re also trying to finish saving for retirement. If you take a risk and fail here, you could put your family in a bad position, compromise your retirement, or even throw away the career you spent your life building. I asked myself this specific question one day: would I be more upset not knowing what could have come out of taking the risk and “possibly” failing or accomplishing what I desired? or would I be more upset one day wishing I would have at least tried..? In my case, my answer will always be the second one. Everything I have accomplished in my life throughout my 25 years of life has come from taking such risks in my personal life, business life, in general really. There is usually no safe route to accomplishing what you really want unless you put something in the finish line. To everyone out there reading this, I hope you find a hint of energy, or motivation to go after what you want. At this moment there might be a few hurdles in the way of you achieving this but the biggest one is your fear of change, or simply just trying.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As you can probably see from my social media postings, I am a real estate agent in Miami, Florida. The place of opportunities for the realist. What I think sets me apart from others is my drive to succeed and want to help others, helping others and being there for those that need me is truly what I value the most. Along the line, it became something more than just receiving a check from a closing, or how much money I’ve made. I genuinely adore seeing the smile and joy in the humans who purchase a home from me, and I want to make what can be a stressful process as easy and smooth as possible. I’d say I am extremely excited to continue to grow here in South Florida, the market has been undoubtedly amazing and I look forward to being a part of the growth this city is experiencing. To get to where I am now wasn’t an easy process, I’ll tell you that but the reward is so much greater than simply giving up. Giving up isn’t an option. I changed states 3xs to figure out where I really see myself growing the most, I myself, like anyone else went through a lot of ups and downs. Throughout the time where I felt useless and helpless and just flat out lost.. those were the times that made me realize I can get myself out of any down point as long as I keep working hard and continue having nothing but good intentions. I am a very trustworthy person, reliable, always on time, and the number one friend to call when you need me. I am a gatekeeper to others’ daily happiness within the place they call home and I hope everyone can see how much effort I really do put into creating something special and a great experience during the process.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
That’s a tough one! Especially in Miami due to the amount of amazing options and culture. The budget is an important one, it all depends on how much you’re trying to spend and where. Location wise to walk around and eat, I would highly recommend Lincoln Road in the Miami Beach area. This area consists of lots of outdoor shops, great eating spots, and a very fun environment to walk around. Next, I would recommend Design District, which is located around Midtown. Here you will find luxury stores like Louis Vuitton, Chanel, and many more designer stores. Design District also has its awesome sit-down areas to grab coffees and lunches. Swan, a new restaurant that just opened up not too long ago is located there, featuring big names like Maluma, Tyga, David Beckham, and many more who go there consistently for a brunch or dinner. It’s definitely the place to go to run into an A-list celeb. For beaches, I would recommend trying Key Biscayne. At Key Biscayne, can find private-looking beaches with tall palm trees; amazing city views on one side, and on the other side you can gaze off at the large yachts that park to sit for the day and there is also no crazy parking which is something helpful especially if you know how chaotic Miami can be. There are grills and huts you can sit down at and enjoy a picnic with your friends or family too. Here you will also find kayaking activities, sailing, paddleboards, and even mountain bike trails that follow the beautiful blue ocean water. Some of the top restaurants around Miami for a fun extravagant time where the music and vibes are always on point would be Kiki On The River, Swan, Komodo, Papi Steak, SeaSpice, La Cantina under Icon in Brickell, and one of my favorites Joia Beach which is one of the only restaurants where you can fine dine while physically on the sand near Oceanside. For entertainment, as of covid restrictions.. What is left and going strong at the moment would be Mr. Jones, the world-renowned venue Space and Elleven. To be a bit more on the bar and relaxed side of going out I would recommend River Side, Wharf, and Astra.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First off, I wouldn’t be here without myself and a lot of self-loving. I am super thankful for my mentality and ability to think outside the box and taking risks that a lot of people told me not to – or just would never do themselves. Without this, I wouldn’t even have had the mental capacity to get started and or keep going in this tough business of real estate especially now with this crazy market. I am appreciative to my parents for always supporting me, no matter what I chose they have always told me I could do it as long as hard work and consistency were applied. I thank my best friend Nevada Henderson for putting me in the position of moving to Atlanta and getting me to start my real estate license. A big thanks to Barry Laughon who was my mentor in Atlanta and really showed me the ropes of this business. And last but not least, I am thankful for Miami. This beautiful city has changed my life and so have the people I come across. I wake up happy and eager every day to learn more, see more, meet more great people, and just continue being the best possible version of myself while living in paradise.
