We had the good fortune of connecting with Raina Askew and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Raina, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
A&G Domestic Staffing was the natural progression of my 22+year career as a nanny. Although I got a bit burnt out chasing toddlers, my love for children and for the industry birthed the idea. With my nanny experience and Cyntha’s business expertise, and as a mother herself, we brought our idea to fruition.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We’re still fairly new to the industry and kind of the new kid on the block so we’re still learning, however we’ve gotten great reviews from both our clients and professionals we’ve found jobs for which is exciting. As much as we pride ourselves on delivering a stellar and high end experience for our clients, helping professionals navigate fair wages and professional standards is an integral part of our business. This is an industry where professionals are easily exploited and we believe we are able to provide quality service and still support for those seeking positions. It’s not either or.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Although we’re based in NYC we LOVE Miami!! And so much so, we’ve recently added Miami to our service areas. Me personally, my party and club days are over so the relaxed energy of North Beach is my vibe. I love starting my day with a cortadito and pastelito, then spending the rest of the day on the beach! After rinsing the sand off, dinner at Baires Grill (Sunny Isles) never disappoints. Maybe off to a lounge for drinks and laughter with friends. Finally, one of my favorite Sunday breakfast/brunch experiences is LA MAR By Gastón Acurio at the Mandarin Oriental. Whatever we do, Miami is always a blast!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Cynthia Germana and I are definitely bold when it comes to acting on an idea and I’m so proud that despite a global pandemic, we still moved through fear and got stuff done! With that said, we wouldn’t have been able to do any of it (well not as efficiently) without the guidance of our consultant and dear friend Dominique Rice.
