We had the good fortune of connecting with Ray Fearon Jr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ray, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I always enjoyed the process of being independent, making my own decisions, and learning from my own mistakes. When I worked for other people, I felt restrained. Whether I wanted to do something extra or not do something I was told to do, I wouldn’t have a choice. With starting my own business, I feel that I can sink or swim with my own decisions.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have two businesses. I am a psychologist. I own my own private therapy practice. and I own my own video production business.

I love being creative. Always have. I get bored easily so I always need to be doing multiple things. Finding ways to mix the two aspects of my life has kept me eager to keep moving forward. On video a lot, I interview people; speak about their mental health, their business, and their life. I also create aim to create videos helping people with their mental health. I help people overcome issues in their life for a living in the psychology practice. I like to find ways to combine the two.

I’ve had to learn how to market these businesses and I have learned this from helping other people market themselves. The big takeaway from these things is… if you learn how to help other people you can learn how to help yourself. And if you learn how to help yourself, you can learn how to help other people. Like a nice revolving door.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I just got into golf. Never thought I would say those words until this summer. Here we are. I would take them along with me to play golf early on. At some scenic places. In an ideal world, somewhere near Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Afterward, I would visit Grand Teton National Park and hike (if you haven’t been there, you need to add it to your bucket list. it’s a 12/10). Then, I would go to a hole-in-the-wall bar. I don’t need loud music or dancing. Just good drinks, laughs, and vibes.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents and my wife. I know it sounds a little cliche but they’re the foundation of my story. They have always supported me in branching off on my own and trusted that I am making the right decisions. Whenever I have my own doubts about being solo, they guide me back into place.

Even if they’re unfamiliar with being business owners, they know the value of hard work. More importantly, they know me. They know how I see things and they know when I am feeling anxious or shaken. A few positive words from my wife are enough to make me feel certain again.
