Meet Reagan Rothe | Creator, Owner of Black Rose Writing

We had the good fortune of connecting with Reagan Rothe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Reagan, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
As a fellow author, I had a strong passion for writing and for aspiring authors, and through my experiences, I wanted to create a business that helped fellow writers. I wanted to take the positives from my publishing experiences and then figure out how to improve the negatives, creating a more personable – family like – and direct publishing journey for authors.

Initially, I wasn’t sure if I wanted Black Rose Writing to be an agency, editing service, or a book publisher. Once I understood the business models of each, and realized the conflict in interest between them, I decided to publish deserving writers.

What should our readers know about your business?
I’m extremely proud of Black Rose Writing’s growth over the years, starting with just myself to now having a wonderful full-time staff and over 500 authors. I’ve cherished the relationships that we’ve developed with our authors. Many of them feel like family. When you create your own success through hard work, self-motivation, and calculated risks, nothing is ever easy, but it’s definitely worth every trying moment.

Even before Black Rose Writing, I’ve always tried to find a positive in any negative life event. In college, I was injured and missed out on playing on the golf team my sophomore year, which instead allowed me the free time to work for the university’s school newspaper and also creative magazine. This is where my first editing and creative writing really blossomed, and this opportunity wouldn’t have come without the negative first.

When we encounter a big momentum shift at Black Rose Writing for the worse, I usually give myself 24-48 hours to be frustrated and down, but then I plan for the change and how we can make this beneficial, and then we push forward with positive change and new strategies.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My wife and I aren’t big night owls or social drinkers, but we plan EVERYTHING around eating fine meals! We prefer to be active, so going on outdoor adventures, playing tennis, or just walking and checking out local stores would be part of the itinerary. We would treat any guest to either a tender steak or some authentic mexican food.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Minna Rothe, my beautiful wife and best friend.

Even when Minna was pursuing her own education and careers, she has been always been such a valuable advisor for Black Rose Writing, ranging from decisions that require risk or just helping me to resolve a sensitive issue.
