We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebecca Guez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rebecca, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
This past year and most likely in the next few months, entire families; parents and children alike are sequestered, isolated, quarantined, and home schooling because of the coronavirus. Parenting alone can be challenging, but added with a pandemic like COVID-19, parents, as much as children, feel more stressed, overwhelmed and do not always know how to cope with it all or find the right answers. Conscious parenting is about supporting and guiding parents to navigate the waters of parenting. Parenting is not obvious, many parents and children feel disconnected from each other, overwhelmed, unheard, disrespected and have a hard time trusting each other. When a parent-child relationship is tumultuous and disconnected not only can home become a hard place to live in, but it also affects the other parts of our lives. As a conscious parenting coach, I guide parents one on one, in couples, groups and offer lots of advice, tips and personal parenting experiences on social media, through posts and videos, to share how to deepen parents connection with their children and communicate better with the appropriate tools so their children want to cooperate, and earn mutual respect. Conscious parenting helps families; parents and children alike communicate better, listen to each other, respect each other and ultimately bringing them to a happier place where they feel safe, fulfilled and have a deep relationship for life. It takes work, but it is truly within reach for any parent who desires to achieve those goals.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As a parenting coach I work with parents one on one and in couples, as well as guiding small groups and giving classes. On social media I share tips and anecdotes in post and video, of real and honest examples of how we work through challenges in my home, what I have learned and my experiences as a parent and coach, and my own authentic life experiences that have brought me to where I am today. I believe deeply in using conscious parenting to grow whole and happy children, and being real and authentic in my own parenting with my community as the best way to truly support parents with children of all ages. I don’t believe as parents we should try to control, or be in power over our children. We are not striving for perfection, or for family life to always be smooth, there will always be challenges, but I do believe that every parent is capable of having a deep and strong connection with their children and the ability to navigate challenging times. My mission is not necessarily to teach parents what to do but help them find what I like to call “their own internal parenting compass.” There are so many resources for parents now, and there’s a beauty in that, but it can also easily become overwhelming and confusing when an ‘expert’ is telling you to parent one way, but it doesn’t feel right to you. I believe in guiding each parent to figure out the best way to connect and communicate with their children that works for them and their family. Another part of my business speaks to the seeker in me. My brand and my personal MO have always been to learn from every single thing that happens to me in my life. The belief that there is a place for every blessing, challenge, word, and interaction has always been at the forefront in supporting me to strive for my personal growth and fulfillment. I love to learn, seek, and evolve. I am always in search of the best tools, techniques, products, services, and healing modalities to support myself, my children, my husband and my home. I love to learn new things, read and am always “shopping” around, and even more I love to share what I find with those around me. Part of what I offer are all of the things I find that I love and that have worked well for me and my family, whether that be the tools of conscious parenting, kitchen tips, recipes, home tips, toys, things to do with school, books, and more. Becoming a parenting coach, and my company Navigating Parenting was born out of both my struggle, and love for being a parent. I relished those moments of connection; love and joy I had with my children, but also found myself frustrated, angry and feeling helpless and lacking structure, formulas, and the right words and tools to communicate in a peaceful way. As I became a parenting coach I deepened my connection with myself, I grew as a person and thus began to enjoy parenting more, finding the right words and thoughts to guide and connect deeper with my children in the strongest way possible. It wasn’t easy to leave the security of a full-time job and it was a long process of growth to develop the courage to bring myself to a place where I believed in myself enough to leap into having my own business. Eventually I began to ask myself the same question over and over again “what would I want my children to do if this was their life?” When I answered that honestly, the answer to this question was always yes, over and over. I want my children to grow up believing in themselves enough to take leaps and to run after their truth, their calling and their unique contribution to the world. If I want my children to grow up believing in themselves then I had to model that for them. I also felt that I deserved to give myself the same chance that I would want them to take.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite museum hands down in Miami is the Robert Frost Museum. I love to go there with my children, they have a little bit of everything. I would take them to Wynwood to visit Zak the Baker for brunch and to have fun in Wynwood Walls looking at the street art and galleries. Wynwood Yard is a lot of fun to visit at night as well. Lincoln Road is fun for daytime or the evening, to walk around, eat, and shop. Sushi Samba would be my food stop on Lincoln Road. Some of my favorites sit-down restaurants are Rustiko, Foozo and Fuego by Mana. Bunniecakes for cupcakes and more desserts is a must! Another evening attraction is a cruise in downtown Miami, because it is so beautiful to be on the water and looking at the lights from all of the buildings. Brickell has become such a fun area to be in during the daytime and night with a city vibe. Miami is so fun because there is access to the beach in so many places; the ocean soothes and nourishes me deeply. I love that while taking a friend to tour around Miami we can just pull over and see the water!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this first of all to my loving and caring parents, who are also now loving and caring grandparents. They honor, respect, support and encourage my work, and are always giving me new ideas! As I have grown our relationship has evolved beautifully. They are always there for me, and telling me how much they learn from me which is truly the biggest compliment in the world. My husband has always believed in me in the deepest way possible. His motto is that you can’t have something you don’t ask for, and the worst thing they will say is “no.” My natural inclination would be to not ask for what is out of my reach and so he has taught me to open my mind to all possibilities. His creativity and ability to think outside the box without limits helped me leap into this business and allows my business to grow! My children, because if it wasn’t for them I don’t think I would have embarked on this holy work. I know it sounds cliché but they truthfully teach me so much all the time (and give me my best material!) My friend Michelle Galoob, told me 12 years ago that I would be a teacher, and at the time I laughed at her incredulously, but it sparked something within my soul, that I had never thought of for myself before then. She has always been one of my biggest supporters, confidantes, and guides. We all need people who believe in us to help us in our moments of doubt and she has always been there for me in this way. I would also like to give a shout-out to The Jai Institute of Parenting, and my mentor there, Rebecca Lyddon, through whom I received my parenting coaching certification. They have created a program that every parent can learn and grow from and taught me so much.
