We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebekah Whitehead and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rebekah, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I love to feed people, it brings me joy. And seeing the lack of options (a couple years ago) inspired me to provide locals with some of my favorites. It was also an opportunity that allowed me the freedom to be more available for my daughter who is a big motivator. I was very blessed on how it all came together.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I was working privately for a family and was able to create so many amazing things while being paid. It was one of the first times in my adult life I experienced doing something I love and receiving a paycheck for it. They let me experiment and play around with different things and gave honest feedback. It was always a learning experience and for that I’m so grateful. That’s been my inspiration, no matter where the journey leads me I hope I love what I’m doing along the way and continue growing and learning. It hasn’t been easy but I have a really great support system and have learned that I can rely on people to help me through hard spots. There is no trophy for doing it all yourself that’s something I have had to remind myself in most areas of my life including motherhood. Burnout is real, take care of yourselves and the multiple facets that make you who you are.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
It’s South Florida so basically anything water related; swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding (my fav), boating, water park, local splash pad with kids. And that calls for a picnic because food is so important. Pub subs and chips are a local’s go to. You’ll need lots of water and sunscreen as well. We have a lot of parks and nature walks to explore those are always beautiful. One thing we have fun doing is riding bikes or blades down the palm beach waterway until the end of the island and jumping off the pier at high tide. It’s a beautiful place to live if you can stand the heat.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am blessed to have amazing women in my life! There are so many whom I have been inspired by, pushed, listened to & learned from. Getting to be apart of a collective kitchen space with some amazing women these past two years has been so rewarding. They really have kept me going and having them to talk to through the process makes you feel like family.
