Meet Rhonda Alyse | Podcaster and Educator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rhonda Alyse and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rhonda, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I want my legacy to be that I created spaces where people felt seen, heard, and empowered to be their authentic selves. I want to be remembered as someone who wasn’t afraid to speak the truth, ask the hard questions, and laugh through the chaos of life. Whether through my podcast, my work in education, or everyday interactions, I hope people remember that I led with love, lived with purpose, and used my voice to spark change and connection.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I built my podcast, Rhonda on the Rhocks, from scratch after walking away from a toxic and abusive relationship. At the time, I never considered myself a “creative” person—I was just trying to heal. But what started as a personal outlet quickly became a purpose. My trial became my testimony. Rhonda on the Rhocks is where I show up fully: bold, unfiltered, and unapologetically myself. No more hiding in the background.
What sets me apart is that podcasting wasn’t part of some long-term plan—it found me. I didn’t grow up dreaming of a mic in my hand, but when life pushed me off the expected path, I chose to bet on myself for the first time. I did it scared, but I did it anyway.
It hasn’t been easy. There were moments of doubt, imposter syndrome, and the heaviness of starting over. But I overcame those challenges through prayer, faith, and the steady love of my family and friends.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is this: I’m proof that reinvention is possible. That healing can be loud, funny, messy, and still holy. And that when you find the courage to show up as your full self, you give others permission to do the same.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting for a week, we’d be outside with intention—living, laughing, and supporting Black-owned businesses all across Chicago! First stop: brunch at The Duplex—great vibes, even better mimosas. Then we’d head to Provare for dinner and an aesthetic moment, followed by drinks and grown-folk fun at Presidents Lounge.
We’d definitely soak up some culture with a visit to The DuSable Museum, and maybe swing by Navy Pier for a stroll, some skyline selfies, and a little tourist energy. We’d make time to unwind at the lake, because nothing hits like that breeze and a heart-to-heart by the water. If they’re into kicks, we’d hit up the Sneakerhead Museum—a hidden gem for any sneaker lover.
Depending on the season, we’re grabbing tickets to see the Bulls or the Bears, because Chicago sports are a whole experience in themselves. Honestly, there’s so much to do in this city. Whether you’re craving art, culture, good eats, or just some joy in motion—Chicago has it all, and I’m always ready to show it off.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to the people who have poured into me with love, faith, and unwavering support. First, my parents, Sidney and Cynthia, for raising me with the love of Christ and laying the foundation for the woman I am today. To my friends Genesis and Bonita—thank you for being my anchors, my sounding boards, and always showing up when I needed it most. And to my cousin Chelsea, my biggest cheerleader, thank you for believing in me even when I doubted myself. I’m standing tall because of the shoulders I’ve been blessed to lean on.
