We had the good fortune of connecting with Ricardo Rodrigues and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ricardo, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Over the years, I have learned how important it is to take risks in life. Sometimes I did that in my personal life, but I cannot say how many times in my career. There is no failure in taking risks; you can succeed, or you can learn lessons. Both outcomes are valuable. Growing up in a small village in the countryside of Brazil, my passion for design started at a young and, and it was realized when I graduated in Product Design and Architecture. As a hardworking professional for 25 years taking, what I dare to say, small risks; opening a store selling only the products I designed and at the same time having my architectural office in Brazil. I’ve gained international prominence through my work and felt I was ready to take another step in my career. I invited my family to take a more significant risk, and we moved to the USA.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
NDT.design was established 25 years ago in Brazil, previously as a store and Architectural Studio. Nowadays, the company has a worldwide reach in e-commerce; and as an architect, I continue working in Brazil and with NdtProject in Florida, where we are based. Growing into the American market, whether in architecture or product design, my work continues to reflect my Brazilian roots. On Ndt.design.com you will find well-thought and distinctive Home & Kitchen products. NdtProject.com shows my architectural portfolio.
Our products are simple, yet distinctive. Eco Friendly, we only use certified materials from renewable resources. Sustainable, we support small and local vendors, working together to bring and share value. Fresh design and eye-catching products. We usually ship in two days with fast delivery and free shipping to the USA. On our online store www.ndt.design is easy and simple to navigate, and safe to shop! If you have a store you can also shop wholesale everything in one place, or email us at contact@ndt.design.
The concept of my work is to create well-thought and distinctive Home & Kitchen products that bring together friends and family, bringing the latest trends in serve ware to their homes. We strive to design products that will help create pleasant moments and long-lasting memories, contributing to enjoying the simple things in life. Things like comfortable living, welcoming people, and caring about people, are all common characteristics in Brazil that make my designs unique with a strong personal touch.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Spend a day in Fort Lauderdale on a city tour to the canals and have dinner in Las Olas. In Miami go to Wynwood, ICA Museum in Design District. Relaxing at Vizcaya’s gardens, eating on Coconut Grove. Drive along the Overseas Highway (US Highway 1) to Key West and maybe spend a day or two over there will be great too.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people I usually thank every time I have an opportunity, all my mentors in and out of university; my mother, wife, and son, the big supporters of all. They are still pushing me and standing strong by my side. My clients, when working with them, I can see that the market has less personalized or warm characteristics designed for individuals than ever. Then, seeing my work drawing families together, making them comfortable, lingering, and spending time with one another, I am sure everything we have overcome was worth it.
