Meet Richard Sheppard: Boat Captain

We had the good fortune of connecting with Richard Sheppard and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Richard, what do you attribute your success to?
We believe that the most important factor behind our success as a business and our brand is Customer Service. We are owner operators and we care about what our customers think about our company. Our boats are 100% Electric, Zero Emissions, and Eco Friendly which is what people are looking for these days.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a 100% Electric, Eco Friendly, Zero Emissions tour boat. We only do Private Cruises which means that when someone books with us, they are booking the entire boat for them, family, and or friends. We now offer 8 different Cruise Packages to fit any budget. In the beginning we had only 3 Cruise Packages and learned if we offered some budget friendly packages we would get more business. We have grown from doing 5-7 Cruises a month in 2018 to 20-25 Cruises a month in 2020.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We have a lot of places and things to do and visit here in Palm Beach County. I would take them to downtown Delray Beach, West Palm Beach for dining, we have the Palm Beach Zoo, Lion Country Safari, of course we have Cruise Palm Beach to show them the sites from the water. We would go to a ball game at the Parks of the Palm Beaches. Of course the beaches are always a great way to spend the day.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife Maureen and I started out together in 1995. We met and fell in Love. I have been an avid sailor since the age of 11 and have always had boats. I took her sailing and she loved it. We have been sailing together now over 25 years. We were talking one day about what we could do business wise and came up with the idea of Cruise Palm Beach. My wife is the inspiration behind me and our company. Our success could not have happened without her.
