We had the good fortune of connecting with Rob Mari and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rob, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
The end goal for L.O.V.E Culture. Right now there’s two end goals. First from a business aspect, is to become a mecca here in Jacksonville for all artists of any form of art. Where all can come align with a brand that’s bigger than one person and natives can proudly say it was built in our backyards. Second, for the collective, being able to create freedoms and legacies. Not just for ourselves but our families as well.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
So, we’re a collective based out of duval county. 5 years ago, there were no collectives – other than what you knew mainstream or indie (take OFGWKTA, the Internet, etc.) Nothing with 7 active members is easy, and we were aware of that; but not only did we use the rarity as an advantage, we used the spirit of collaboration with us and others to help us grow within and outside of our city. We’re still growing and still learning how to move in the most efficient way, but one thing we can say we learned is the power of patience & timing. When it’s yours, it’s yours. Know when to tell the difference and when to move in it. Know when it’s your time to head to the trenches and get to work- both of those seasons in an artists’ career is important. We really believe in taking time to build a project, our relationship our fan base, we believe in the marathon, not the race. The world tends to rush you, because everything comes so fast. We worked hard to get here, so we like to take our time to deliver phenomenal shows and great music We want to encourage other artists and people out there that life is yours to do the same, sometimes you can feel rushed to “become” and you miss the whole journey – don’t be afraid to sit in your present moment and take your time. Try new things, experiment with different colors, different styles – your moment is your moment, not for anyone else. Don’t rush, take your time and enjoy it while you’re here. That’s what we here at LC do best. – Che
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Probably would first slide to the beaches, depending on the weather, you cannot come to any parts of Florida without going to the beach! If you looking for a chill late afternoon/evening vibe Riverside Jax is always the spot. Between the food and good vibes from the local DJs you can’t beat it. We could catch DJ Enerji or DJ Mas Appeal for beats, brunch & bubbly at raindogs or we could catch a great local music show down at Archetype in riverside. Downtown Jax is always great at night for the venues, bars and pubs. There’s a new spot called “Silkies” in Springfield and “Cool Moose Cafe” on Park Street both are phenomenal and black owned. Did I mention the crab boils? Oh yeah, and DJ Larry Love has his hands in all kinds of kickbacks and Parties you would not want to miss!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There truly is no “I” TEAM nor is there an “I” in L.O.V.E Culture. It really takes like minded individuals who believe and trust the process of investing into something without seeing an immediate return. To the artists of the collective, the unselfishness that has to be had in order to think bigger picture. We are genuinely fans of one another so being able to check all our prides at the door for the greater good has allowed us to grow and continue to grow further in our careers. To Weighed Sailor, who help co founded L.O.V.E Culture and also help orchestrate not only a collective of creatives but a family. Providing videography and other visual medias, capturing the very essence of what makes us so unique and captivating to watch. To DJ Larry Love, Seeking shows and other opportunities to help build or notoriety while rocking shows with us. To TrashBeatsAlan, producer extraordinaire for believing in us and wanting to lend his talents to the cause. To all our other friends and creative partnerships we have been able to garner along the way. L.O.V.E Culture truly does not exist without these individuals. – Rob Mari
