We had the good fortune of connecting with Salomon Urraca and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Salomon, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor has been the connection to my clients, building relationships and creating powerful images which has given me a place in the industry.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Im a Fitness Photographer for over 12 years, I moved to Miami late 2011 since then Ive been following the npc and Ifbb events, these are the 2 biggest bodybuilding federation. Athletes would compete Saturday and would want to shoot on Sunday. I was already known for my stage shots since I had the honor to shoot for MD Latino, Muscular development magazines for many years. I was most excited and prod to have worked with the biggest legends of all times athletes i had only scene in magazines when I was younger, now I they were posing in front of my lens. It wasn’t easy I think perseverance was key, perfecting my craft and developing my style. Most people distinguished my work for my lighting which made the athletes hardworked physique pop almost jumping out of the photo, something bodybuilding magazines and supplement companies liked.
Lessons learned, believe in yourself and know your worth. There could be other artists out there but no on will do it like you do, identify your niche and then market yourself with the best tool you have which is your amazing work. Also provide the athlete, the brand or who ever your client is with the best experience and see your business grow.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So when I have friend visit me most of the time I would take them with me to an early shoot in Miami Beach or at Miamis most trendy gym Elev8tion fitness because most of my friends are so curious on how I do what I do or most of the time they get to meet a celebrity fitness model or influencer that im working with that day. After I would take them to one of my breakfast/brunch spots, La bolangerie in Aventura, Morgans in the Wynwood area or Michaels genuine in the design district you can’t go wrong with any of these restaurants. i would for sure show them the Keys great place to drink eat and go boat riding to one of there amazing beaches. Another replace to visit would be Orlando for he attractions and rides which never get old. Lastly I would arrange for a night at Club Space their weekend Dj Lineup is top notch.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Lionel Valerio and Joelby Valerio, brothers owner of Gurabo Nutrition in the Dominican Republic, they introduced me to the top brands, athletes and invited me to my first bodybuilding event, which got me hooked in fitness photography exclusively. I will be for ever grateful to them, they also introduced me to Kit Sanderson chief editor of MD Latino which I did work for many years after I moved to Miami in 2011. My wife and my family in general who supported me and believed in me since day one when at first everything was just a hobby.
