We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha Gallacher and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Samantha, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
I have two boys, aged 8 and 10, and they see how much I work. As a parent, and especially a woman, I want them to see the value of building something from the ground up and making it work. All that aside, I also love spending time with them, and making sure they know I’m always there. No matter how much is on my plate!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started Art and Loom at my dining room table with a laptop and a desire to design my own rugs. I didn’t have any expectations about where it would lead, but I was relentless in my pursuit of making a bespoke product that clients love. No business is without its headaches along the way, but perseverance is a powerful thing. Every time I design something new, the excitement about the creative process is as thrilling as it’s always been. I’m not a proud person, but I do get satisfaction when something complex, like a stair-runner, comes together. I’m happy when my clients are over-the-moon with the final result. As for lessons? Don’t get discouraged, surround yourself with people who support you, and keep moving forward. I’m extremely lucky, I do something I love, and not too many of us can say that.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Miami and it’s changed so much over the last few years. Of course there are beaches and sunshine, but if you love design Art Basel is incredible. The whole city fills with venues showcasing art and design. I like nothing more than hopping from one show to the next, the inspiration is literally endless. My favorite neighborhoods are the Design District and Wynwood, both relatively new additions to Miami. It’s hard to keep track of all the places to eat and sip on a cocktail, but Pubbelly for sushi is hard to beat, followed by an Espresso Martini at the Surf Club.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Family is the most important thing to me, and while my kids are a handful, they sustain everything I do (in their own way!) My parents taught me, through their own example, the value of hard work and dedication and I’m eternally grateful. Art and and Loom wouldn’t have grown the way it has without my Sales Director Mayela Hernández, whose commitment to our success is nothing short of a blessing. As for mentors, Shelley Goldberg believed in me when no-one else did, and you can’t place a value on that.
